The propagation method of variegated reed

The propagation method of variegated reed

1. Rhizome cutting propagation:

1. The first thing we need to do is to dig out the underground rhizomes of the plant, then clean the mud on the rhizomes with clean water, and then use a knife to cut the rhizomes into blocks, with about 3 to 4 buds on each block.

2. Prepare the soil for growing seedlings. This plant prefers fertile, slightly acidic, loose and well-drained sandy soil. We'd better prepare this kind of culture soil for it.

3. This plant is very afraid of drought, and it can grow near water. It is not afraid of waterlogging but rather likes a humid environment. Therefore, we need to water the soil thoroughly, preferably to the point where the water overflows the soil surface.

4. Then bury the tubers, leaving each tuber 40 cm apart, as the plant can grow very tall.

2. Cutting propagation:

1. If you choose this method, it can usually be done at the end of August or the beginning of September. Use scissors or cut the branches and immediately put them in water. Because this method cannot leave water, it must be cut and inserted at any time.

2. Generally, the water level on the seedling bed for cuttings can be three to five centimeters high. After about 20 days, it will grow roots.

3. If you want to plant it on the ground, you can choose to dig a hole at the edge of the pond or next to the rockery or in some low-lying place where water easily accumulates; if you want to plant it in a pot, you can choose a container with an inner diameter of about 50 to 60 cm, preferably one that does not leak. After planting, water it frequently, and be sure to keep the soil moist and the water level shallow.

3. Notes

1. After it grows out, increase the water temperature in time, because it likes warmth and fears cold.

2. Remove the surrounding weeds in time to allow the plants to absorb nutrients.

3. If the light is too strong, provide appropriate shade.
