What to do if daffodils don't bloom

What to do if daffodils don't bloom

1. Normal flowering period

If we want to explore the reason why this flower does not bloom, we need to first understand the time when this flower blooms. Generally speaking, daffodils bloom in spring, that is, from December to around March of the following year, and the flowering period is about 10 to 15 days. Flower lovers can use the above standards to measure whether their daffodils are blooming normally.

2. Causes and solutions for non-flowering

1. Poor bulbing

Many flower lovers will encounter a problem, that is, even if they take timely and proper care of the daffodils, they are still pretending to be inexperienced. What is going on? In fact, this situation is most likely due to problems with the flowers themselves and has nothing to do with maintenance. Most flower lovers cannot distinguish whether the bulbs are from the current year or whether the bulbs are good or bad when purchasing them. This is the reason why the flowers fail to bloom for a long time. But in this case, you don’t need to worry too much. Generally, the daffodils will bloom after two to three years of care.

2. The time to start water culture is unreasonable

Narcissus is a dormant flower. If flower lovers start growing it in water at the wrong time, the narcissus will not bloom or will produce what we often call dumb flowers. Therefore, it is recommended that you avoid the period after Qingming Festival and before Frost Descent when growing it in water. This will not affect the flowering!

3. Failure to change water in time

When growing daffodils in water, there are certain requirements for the cleanliness of the water. If the water is not changed for a long time, or the water is not changed in time, bacteria is likely to grow in the water, affecting the normal growth of the plant. In severe cases, it will cause the bulbs to rot, and flowering will naturally be affected. The solution is to change the water in time to ensure the water quality is clean. If the plant has rotted, it is recommended to cut off the rotten part of the bulb and disinfect the hydroponic utensils and plant wounds again. I would also like to remind you that if you use tap water for hydroponics, it is best to dry it in the sun one day in advance.

4. Unreasonable temperature and light

An important factor for daffodils to bloom is light, which many people ignore. Generally, insufficient light, coupled with high indoor temperatures, will cause the plants to grow too tall, resulting in fewer or even no flowers. Therefore, if you want to ensure that the plant blooms, you need to adjust the indoor temperature, and it is best to ensure that the plant receives 4 to 6 hours of light every day. In this way, the daffodils will bloom naturally and beautifully!
