When to plant gladiolus bulbs

When to plant gladiolus bulbs

1. Planting time

Generally speaking, it will produce bulbs one year after being planted. We usually use its seed bulbs, and the planting time is generally in spring. Of course, if the conditions are to maintain the temperature so that it does not enter a dormant state, then there is no need to worry about the time.

2. Preparation before planting

Because it is a bulb, we need to process the bulb in a certain way before we start planting it. Our approach is actually quite simple:

1. Soak the grading ball in water for a quarter of an hour, and then use mercuric chloride or formalin. Generally, the concentration of mercuric chloride we need is 0.1%, and formalin needs to use an eighty-fold solution. The disinfection time only takes thirty minutes. 2. Wash it with pure water and put it in a ventilated place to dry for later use.

3. Before sowing, we also need to use fertilizers to increase the nutrient content of the flower soil, but these base fertilizers cannot come into direct contact with the bulbs we sow.

3. Potted plants

1. Put it all into the soil and press it down.

2. Pour enough water into it and water it thoroughly.

3. Place it in a semi-shaded place, water it in time, and wait for it to sprout.

4. Ground Planting

1. Choose a suitable piece of land and dig a trench. The depth of the trench should be twice that of the bulbs. As for the spacing, you have to decide it according to the size of the bulbs.

2. Place the bulbs in the trench and cover them with a layer of soil to fill the trench.

3. After sowing, you still need to pay attention to water management. Before the seedlings emerge, do not water easily unless it is completely dry.

5. Notes

We need to pay more attention to some rarer species. Generally, we want to expand the breeding base, so we have to cut these balls into pieces. The number of cuts depends on the size of the balls, two to four pieces will be enough.

There are also requirements for each piece. There must be a root plate and the buds must also be full, so that the propagation of bulblets is feasible. Something should be applied to the cut area to prevent the invasion of bacteria. You can use charcoal ash or grass ash, and then plant immediately after application.
