How to plant bottle orchid seeds

How to plant bottle orchid seeds

1. Seed selection

If we want to see the life cycle of the bottle orchid from seed to plant, we have to choose good seeds, because this is the key to its growth. If we choose a bad seed, it will even have problems germinating, let alone growing into a bottle orchid. Our suggestion here is to use the seeds of the current year. If we have stored seeds from last year or even the year before, that is not a problem, but the time the seeds are stored is actually inversely proportional to its survival rate, which means that the seeds of the current year are better. In addition, the seeds we choose must have good appearance. Seeds that are plump and not damaged are easier to pick. In addition, we also need to pay attention to whether the seeds have been bitten by insects. If so, we should choose other healthy seeds.

2. Sowing and disinfection

The seeds need to be disinfected. Generally speaking, we only need to put them in warm water for a quarter of an hour. The next step is to soak them in hot water for a day. The seed matrix also needs to be disinfected. The method we usually choose is stir-frying, which is simpler and quicker. In addition, we can use fungicides for disinfection, which is a better treatment method, but it is a bit troublesome.

3. Sowing method

The sowing method of bottle orchid is actually not much different from that of ordinary plants. Because the seeds are relatively small, we don't need to pick them up with our hands. We can directly use a toothpick tool to pick up the seeds, and then cover them with the substrate. It doesn't need to be very deep, about one centimeter will be enough. If some seeds are relatively large, we can put them directly in. The rest of the operations are the same, except that the thickness of the matrix should be two or three times thicker than the seeds. After sowing the seeds, we also need to water the substrate. The watering process must be gentle and the seeds must not be washed away.
