When is walnut ripe?

When is walnut ripe?

1. Maturity

The maturity period of walnuts varies due to different varieties and climate differences. The maturity period of some early-maturing varieties and late-maturing varieties can differ by 10 to 25 days. Usually, the maturity period in northern regions is mostly in early to mid-September, while in southern regions it is relatively earlier.

2. Picking Season

When walnuts are harvested between August 25 and September 1, the walnut kernels are yellowish brown or light brown, and the taste becomes fragrant but slightly astringent. If walnuts are picked after September 1, the walnut kernels are white-yellow, have an oily and crispy taste. Walnuts harvested later will be very mature, and the green skin will crack by itself, making it easy to remove the green skin, and the peeled fruit surface will be clean and beautiful.
