How to Plant American Dianthus Seeds

How to Plant American Dianthus Seeds

1. Harvesting

After the flowers fall, we can start collecting seeds. After harvesting, we usually don’t plant them immediately. We soak them in water for two days in advance. After soaking, we take out the seeds, mix them with sand, and then we can proceed to the next step.

2. Time

For planting, it is usually done in September, but if you are planting in the north, it is better to plant it earlier rather than too late. Generally, it is best to choose between August and September. In this way, when it grows up, it will have many branches, so that it can bloom more flowers. But if you are planting in the south, there are not so many time restrictions. You can plant as long as the temperature is kept between 5 and 22 degrees.

3. Planting seeds

We scatter the seeds mixed with sand on the seedbed or the ground where they need to be sown, and then cover them with a thin layer of soil to better maintain the temperature of the seeds. After that, you can water it. When watering, make sure to water it enough and keep the temperature appropriate. After about five days, its seeds will begin to sprout.

4. Maintenance

After the seeds germinate, seedlings will grow in about 10 days. At this time, we must control the temperature. Generally, the most suitable temperature for seedling growth is between 10 and 20 degrees, so that the seedlings can grow better. When the seedlings grow 4 to 5 leaves, we can start transplanting them. After transplanting, these seedlings will bloom in the spring of next year. In addition, if you choose to plant it outdoors, or sow it in pots from November to December, then if you want to transplant it, it is not so early. You must wait until April of the following year to start transplanting.
