Lily is a popular ornamental plant that also has good edible and medicinal value, and has broad prospects for cultivation. So what are the methods and time for cultivating lilies? Let’s learn more about it below. Lily cultivation time The planting time of lilies is usually divided into two periods: autumn and spring. Among them, the best time for spring planting is March to April, while autumn planting can usually be carried out from September to October. Lily cultivation method 1. Select the site and apply fertilizer Lilies prefer loose, well-drained soil with an optimal pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Before planting, the soil should be deeply tilled, weeds removed, and an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer , such as well-rotted compost or chicken manure, added to improve soil structure and increase nutrients. 2. Bulb processing Choose healthy, disease-free bulbs and disinfect them before planting. You can soak them in carbendazim or potassium permanganate solution for 20-30 minutes. 3. Planting method Dig trenches about 15 cm deep for planting, place the lily bulbs with the buds facing up in the trenches, then cover with fine soil and compact lightly. The bulbs should be spaced about 10-15 cm apart to ensure that the lilies have enough room to grow. 4. Watering and fertilizing Lilies like moisture but are afraid of waterlogging. They should be watered in time according to the soil dryness and wetness and climatic conditions. Fertilization should be mainly organic fertilizer, combined with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizers . Be careful not to apply too much fertilizer to avoid fertilizer damage. 5. Pest and disease control Lilies are susceptible to diseases and pests such as aphids and leaf spot, so they should be discovered in time and measures should be taken, such as using appropriate pesticides for prevention and control. For example, for aphids, you can choose imidacloprid, acetamiprid, pymetrozine and other pesticides; for leaf spot disease, you can choose mancozeb, carbendazim, methyl thiophanate and other pesticides. 6. Reproduction method Lilies are mainly propagated by division. Usually, lilies that have grown for 2-3 years will grow small bulbs next to the bottom bulb. Within 15-30 days after the flowers fade, dig out the bulbs and clean the soil. Use a knife to split the small bulbs with side buds, and then choose an appropriate location for planting. In general, growing lilies is relatively simple and is also suitable for home potted plants . But we must pay attention to creating a suitable planting environment for the growth of lilies, which will help improve the yield and quality of lilies.
