How to reproduce Amaranthus caudatus

How to reproduce Amaranthus caudatus

1. Planting

Amaranthus caudatus has tiny seeds, which are less than 1 mm in diameter, so the land should be carefully prepared before sowing, and more fertilizer should be applied and drainage conditions should be improved to ensure its normal growth. From late April to late August every year, when the temperature stabilizes at 14 degrees, you can sow the seeds, and seedlings will emerge after three to five days. When propagating, you can choose direct sowing or seedling transplanting. Mix the seeds and soil together and sow them together, or after sowing the seeds, cover the freshly sown seeds with a thin layer of fine soil. The soil for sowing should have good drainage, not too much moisture, and the soil should be finely prepared before sowing. The appropriate sowing depth is 2-3 cm. First, manage the cultivated land, then determine the reasonable row spacing, use a furrow opener to dig furrows, and finally sow the seeds. Cover the seeds with 2-3 cm of soil and gently level the land with your feet. Alternatively, you can use a bamboo joint with a small hole in the diaphragm to allow the seeds to leak out from the joint for sowing. It is most appropriate to sow about 50 grams of seeds per acre of land. If the seedling transplanting method is used, the sowing amount can be set to 25 grams. If the land is suitable, you can directly dig trenches and sow the seeds without tilling. Because of its strong adaptability and fast growth, there is no need to weed the land.

2. Seedling cultivation and transplanting

In addition to direct sowing, you can also choose to raise seedlings and transplant them to prevent the problem of Amaranthus caudatus not germinating after sowing due to unsuitable salinity and alkalinity of the soil. Prepare a 40 cm deep seedbed, fill it with about 20 cm of soil, and water it thoroughly. After the water has completely penetrated the soil, the seeds can be evenly spread on it and covered with a layer of 1.5 to 2 cm of fine soil and covered with a film. After about a week, when the seedlings grow to two centimeters, you can remove the film and let them ventilate. The temperature of the seedbed should be controlled below 40 degrees to ensure the normal growth of the seedlings. In the afternoon when the sunlight is weak, or on rainy days, seedlings that are ten to twenty centimeters tall can be transplanted with soil. Be careful not to damage the roots when transplanting, and water after transplanting.

3. Notes

After the Amaranthus caudatus seedlings emerge, additional fertilizer should be added, the branches should be pruned, and drugs should be used to prevent and control diseases and pests.
