How to grow peonies in pots

Peony is a cold-resistant perennial herbaceous flower. my country mainly cultivates single-petal peonies. Its cultivation as a medicinal material is the main source of income for farmers in the planting areas.

We can also grow peony potted plants at home, and the peony flowers are very enchanting. I know many flower lovers who like to grow them. If you do these 5 things after buying them, they can grow strong and bloom more.

First, choose the pot:

Peony has thick fleshy tubers and strong root extension ability. When choosing a pot, it is best to choose a wide, large and deep pot. Large pots with more soil will reduce air permeability and water permeability. Therefore, the material of the pot also has higher requirements for air permeability and water permeability.

It is recommended that you use clay pots or purple sand pots.

Second, soil:

Peony is not picky about soil, but potted plants should try to meet the growth characteristics of peony. Make the soil loose and breathable, with good drainage, light fertilizer and slightly acidic.

When planting, you can use a mixture of multiple soils, taking one-third of each of garden soil, humus soil and river sand. When planting, the soil at the bottom of the flowerpot can be mixed with a small amount of sheep manure and organic fertilizer and buried in the bottom of the flowerpot.

Third, environment:

The best growth temperature for peony is between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, and it is afraid of high temperature and exposure. When planting peony, it should be placed in a bright light position for about 10 days in the early stage, and then slowly increase the light.

After the new buds grow out, they can receive about 3 hours of sunlight in the morning or evening. When the new buds grow to 20 cm, they can be maintained in full sunlight. Pay attention to heat preservation and avoid excessive exposure to the sun.

Fourth, watering:

Most peonies are grown by dividing fleshy tubers, so the wounds are large and easy to rot. For newly planted peonies, watering to keep the soil slightly moist is enough, and spraying to increase the humidity of the microenvironment will allow the peonies to grow and germinate normally.

About 15 days after planting, the wound heals and watering can be based on the dryness of the soil, achieving the goal of "don't water if it's not dry, and water thoroughly if you do."

Fifth, fertilization:

It is not recommended to apply fertilizer in the first two months after planting peony. Fertilize when the plant grows to 35 cm and has a full crown. The nutrients provided by the plant are mainly supplied by mixed soil and part of the base fertilizer. Applying fertilizer too early can easily lead to root burn and death.

It is recommended to use organic fertilizer for daily fertilization. By loosening the shallow surface soil, bury the "fermented sheep dung balls" shallowly in the topsoil layer of the flower pot. When fertilizing, be careful not to apply fertilizer in the middle of the flower pot, but along the edge of the pot wall.

Before flowering, it is necessary to supplement the "phosphorus and potassium" elements. It is recommended to use 1200 times "potassium dihydrogen phosphate" to fertilize the leaves for three consecutive times, with an interval of 8 days each time.
