Carnation cultivation methods and precautions

Carnation , also known as mother's flower, is one of the common flowers in daily life. It has more petals than carnations, the flowers are larger, the colors are brighter, and it is very charming. Many people may think that carnations are difficult to care for, but in fact, the planting and management of potted carnations are quite simple. Below we will learn about the carnation cultivation methods and precautions.

1. Avoid drought

In summer, if you find that the soil in the pot is dry, you must water it in time to prevent drought from causing the leaves or flower buds to wither. Especially during the growth period, flowering period and midsummer, the amount of watering should be increased, especially for outdoor potted carnations.

However, we should also avoid long-term waterlogging in the potting soil and pay attention to drainage during the rainy season. On sunny days in summer, usually water once a day and make sure to water thoroughly so that carnations can continue to grow new branches and leaves and differentiate new flower buds. From spring to summer, the color of the flowers will be brighter, and the buds and petals will be larger.

2. Increase Lighting

Carnation is a sun-loving plant and cannot tolerate shade, so it should be placed in a sunny place in the home, especially during the peak flowering period in spring and early summer, when sufficient light is required.

If placed in a dark place for a long time, the number of flower buds will decrease, the branches and leaves will grow too long, the flower color will not be bright, and the number of flowers will also decrease. However, during the high temperatures in summer, long-term strong sunlight exposure is not conducive to its growth, so appropriate shade can be provided. In other seasons, it needs more sunlight to facilitate flowering and the growth of new branches, leaves and flower buds.

3. Prune frequently

To make the carnation potted plants bloom frequently, have a more luxuriant plant shape and more flower buds, they need to be topped and pinched regularly, and this should be done several times starting from the seedling stage.

This can promote its branching, and the initial few branches will gradually grow into a dozen or even twenty branches, making the plant fuller. After flowering, when the flowers wither and dry up, the remaining flowers should be picked off in time to avoid consuming nutrients for the plant while maintaining the ornamental effect.

Only by pruning more frequently and removing the dead flowers in time can carnations continue to sprout new branches, leaves and flower buds. This is very important, especially for potted carnations at home. You must prune them more often and cut or pick off the dead flowers in time.

During the growing and flowering periods, you can apply some fertilizer frequently, using the method of applying thin fertilizers frequently to supplement nutrients, making its branches and leaves more lush and able to bloom frequently. As long as they are properly cared for, carnations can bloom in summer and will bring you many surprises and beautiful flowers.

Carnations have beautiful, lush plant shapes, numerous and colorful flowers, and are very attractive. It has a rich variety of flower colors, including bright red, pink, etc., all of which are very beautiful and easy to maintain. If you like growing flowers, you might as well try growing a pot of carnations at home.
