How to plant California poppy seeds

How to plant California poppy seeds

Sowing time

Generally speaking, it is suitable to sow California poppies in autumn, but flower lovers in the north can choose to sow them indoors in early spring.

Soil selection

Although California poppy seeds do not need to absorb nutrients from the outside to germinate, choosing a fertile growing soil is more conducive to the growth of young plants after germination.

It is afraid of waterlogging, but likes a humid growing environment, so you should choose a planting soil that has a certain moisturizing ability but will not accumulate water.

You should choose a cultivation soil with a certain degree of ventilation, which will help the seeds germinate better.

Before sowing, the seeds should be disinfected with liquid medicine or exposed to the sun to ensure a good germination environment for the seeds.

Planting method

Apply some base fertilizer on the prepared cultivation soil to provide certain nutritional supplements, and then add a small amount of rotten flowers and leaves to ensure a certain humus content.

Prepare a flower pot of suitable size. The specific size can be determined according to your weight.

Immerse the flower pot completely in the disinfectant to disinfect it for at least 30 minutes. Then take out the flower pot and rinse it with pure water at least three times to ensure that there is no disinfectant residue.

Then put it in a windy place and wait until it dries. At this time, avoid some dirt touching the inside of the flowerpot to cause secondary pollution.

Put the sterilized growing soil into the flowerpot, but don't fill it too full. The volume of the growing soil should account for about 80% of the volume of the flowerpot.

Use a shovel to level the soil surface. Be careful not to press the soil surface too hard, just level it lightly.

Sprinkle the prepared seeds evenly on the soil surface. Be careful not to use too much force and it is best to handle them with care. This ensures that the seeds will not be damaged during movement and ensures that they have good germination conditions.

At this time, be sure to sow the seeds evenly, not too much or too little. This ensures that each seed has enough space to grow and will not have difficulty germinating due to lack of resources. Secondly, it ensures that the grown plants are evenly distributed and will not affect the ornamental value of the entire pot of plants.

Finally, cover it with a 1~3cm layer of growing soil, water the growing soil with a kettle until it is moist, and the planting is completed.
