What to do if hydrangea leaves turn yellow

What to do if hydrangea leaves turn yellow

1. Suitable lighting

It can tolerate shade, but is afraid of direct sunlight. It can grow normally under scattered light. Too much or not enough sunlight can cause leaves to turn yellow. The leaves turn yellow and white in summer because they are burned by the sun or the sunlight is too strong. You can move them to a shaded and windy place to avoid direct sunlight. If the leaves turn yellow due to insufficient sunlight, you can extend the sunlight exposure time.

2. Water properly

It likes places with plenty of water, but is also afraid of too much water and drought. If there is too much water, the leaves will gradually turn yellow and lose their luster, and in severe cases may fall off. If this happens, you should stop watering, loosen the soil and let it dry, and then add water after the soil is completely dry. If there is too little water and the soil in the pot is too dry, you should add a small amount of water first, wait for 30 minutes, then water it thoroughly again and sprinkle clean water on the branches and leaves.

3. Reasonable fertilization

During the fertilization process, if too much fertilizer is added, it will easily cause "root burn", causing the branches and leaves to turn yellow and fall off. If this happens, you should stop fertilizing and increase the amount of watering to allow nutrients to flow out from the small holes at the bottom, then rinse the soil with water and replace it with new soil. If the soil is not replaced and nutrients are not added for a long time, especially if there is a lack of nitrogen and the nutrient supply is insufficient, the leaves will lose their green color and turn yellow. In this case, you should replace the soil with new nitrogen-containing, loose soil in time and add nutrients every 10 days.
