Petunia likes warmth and is not cold-resistant. The best soil temperature for its seeds to germinate is 20-25℃, so it is best to sow in spring and autumn. For example, March-April in spring and September-October in autumn. But it still needs to be adjusted according to different climates and regions.

How to sow petunias?

1. Pot soil selection

Petunias prefer loose, well-drained soil. You can prepare the soil yourself, such as mixing leaf mold, garden soil and perlite in a ratio of 3:2:1. You can also buy general flower soil available in the market. In addition, you should choose flower pots or seedling trays with good air permeability and a certain depth as sowing containers, and there should be drainage holes at the bottom for drainage.

2. Pre-sowing treatment

Before sowing, the soil should be disinfected. Disinfectants such as carbendazim, thiophanate-methyl, and chlorothalonil can be used. And soak the seeds in warm water for about 24 hours to promote water absorption and expansion and increase the germination rate.

3. Sowing method

The sowing method is very simple. Sprinkle the seeds directly on the soil surface without covering them with soil. After planting, water them thoroughly and cover them with plastic film to keep them warm and moist.

4. Post-maintenance

After planting, move the potting soil to a ventilated and cool place, and don't rush to expose it to the sun. In addition, although plastic wrap can keep moisture in, it needs to be uncovered and ventilated every day, so that it will germinate in about two weeks. Once the plant has grown 2-3 pairs of true leaves, it can be carefully transplanted into a separate small pot or a predetermined garden location, after which normal water and fertilizer management and other maintenance can be carried out.

In general, mastering the right sowing time and scientific sowing methods are the key to successfully growing petunias. At the same time, through careful care and management, I believe you will be able to grow beautiful petunias .
