Garlic is a condiment vegetable that people often eat and has a very high market demand. Moreover, it is easy to grow and has strong adaptability, and is basically grown all over the country. So what are the time and method for cultivating garlic? Let’s learn more about it below. Garlic planting time The planting time of garlic is generally divided into two periods: spring and autumn. Generally, spring sowing is carried out from March to April, while autumn sowing is from September to October. Among them, garlic sown in autumn has a longer growth cycle, which is conducive to the accumulation of nutrients. Therefore, the yield of garlic stalks and garlic bulbs is usually higher than that of spring-sown garlic. Garlic Planting Methods 1. Land preparation and fertilization When planting garlic, you should choose a plot with loose soil, good drainage and rich organic matter. Before sowing, the land needs to be deeply plowed and sufficient base fertilizer, such as decomposed organic fertilizer and compound fertilizer , should be applied. 2. Seed selection and processing Choose garlic cloves that are free of pests and diseases and are uniform in size for seeds. Before sowing, peel the garlic cloves and remove the dry parts to promote germination. 3. Sowing method Generally, the flat-bed sowing method can be adopted, with a bed width of 1.5-2 meters. After the bed is completed, a 5-6 cm shallow trench is dug from one side of the bed according to a certain row spacing using an angle hoe or plow. Then, the seed petals are placed according to the determined plant spacing and covered with soil. After the furrow is prepared and sown, it should be properly compacted and the ground should be leveled along the surface. 4. Field management Garlic needs to keep the soil moist as it grows, especially during the period of stem elongation and bulb formation. Fertilization should be mainly organic fertilizer, with an appropriate amount of chemical fertilizer. In terms of disease and pest control, attention should be paid to the prevention and timely treatment of common diseases of garlic, such as powdery mildew, leaf spot, etc., as well as pests such as aphids and spider mites. In addition, weeding should be done regularly to keep the field free of weeds, and the soil should be loosened to promote root development. 5. Harvest at the right time The right time to harvest is when the leaves are withered and the pseudostems are soft but not brittle. Garlic stalks are usually harvested when the leaf sheath mouth is 8-15 cm, and garlic bulbs are harvested 20-30 days after the garlic stalks are harvested. In general, when cultivating garlic, attention should be paid to timely sowing, avoiding sowing too early or too late, so as not to affect the growth and yield of garlic. At the same time, grasp the key planting methods, including water and fertilizer, disease prevention, weeding, etc., to ensure the healthy growth and high yield of garlic.
