The reproduction method of Rhododendron yunjinensis

The reproduction method of Rhododendron yunjinensis

Cuttings

This is a relatively easy method. It is not only simple, but also has a higher probability of survival. It is basically carried out during the best growth period, because their ability to absorb nutrients is stronger during this period, so their ability to survive is stronger. You should also be careful when choosing branches, because if the branches are too tender, it will be difficult for them to adapt to the new environment. On the contrary, if they are too old, they may carry residual pathogens, so it is best to choose new branches that are semi-lignified.

Cut to about 5-8cm, cut off some of the leaves at the bottom, leaving only 2-3 leaves on the top. After careful disinfection, apply some rooting powder as shown in the picture, and then insert it into the soil after it is dry. After planting, be sure to water it enough. This will not only allow the roots of the inserted branches to fit more closely to the substrate, but also allow the plant to have sufficient water in the early stages of growth. Then you need to provide shade for a short period of time, and after the plant has grown stably, you can remove the shading device.

Twigs

This method is different from the above. First, select the young branches to be propagated, cut them to 3-4cm long, and cut the bottom into a wedge shape so that the graft can fit more closely. The rootstock can be chosen as Maojuan. After grafting, it can be placed in a shade shed for maintenance, and the rootstock and scion should be covered with plastic bags to keep them moist. If there is no bagging, it is also necessary to spray water in time.

Here is a trick. When pruning, you can leave the overgrown branches for cuttings, because these branches are bound to be easier to root than ordinary branches. After collecting the branches, they should be soaked in water immediately, but not all of them, just 2-3cm will be enough. Then place it in a cool place to dry before cutting.
