How to fertilize potted orchid

How to fertilize potted orchid

1. Base fertilizer

When raising seedlings and changing pots, you need to mix well-rotted fertilizer into the soil in a certain proportion, so as to provide it with nutrients for long-term growth. Fertilizers are generally made by yourself, which will have better effects. But be careful not to let the roots of the potted orchid come into contact with fertilizer, otherwise it will easily burn the plant because of excessive fertilizer.

2. Topdressing

During the growth period of potted orchid, if the basic fertilizer is applied for too long, it will no longer provide sufficient nutrients to the plant. It is time to add some fertilizer. You can use chemical fertilizers or organic fertilizers. When using chemical fertilizers, be sure to avoid the branches and stems of the plants and sprinkle them into the soil, or you can add some water to the fertilizer and then water it. Fertilizers are very easy to use and the effect is very quick, but if used for a long time, the soil in the pot will become clumpy and the air permeability of the soil will be poor. However, it is relatively simple to make your own fertilizer, the fertilizer lasts longer, and it can improve the soil, so using more organic fertilizer will be more effective. In addition, you can also dilute your own organic fertilizer before use, or bury it shallowly around the plant, but avoid its roots.

3. Foliar fertilization

Generally, pot-spacing orchids are more suitable for this method. It can quickly replenish the nutrients it has lost, and it is very convenient and the effect is very good. We can dilute the fertilizer to a certain proportion, and then use a sprayer to sprinkle it directly on the leaves of the plant, allowing the leaves to absorb nutrients, which will have a better effect. If it is in the growth and development period, we generally only need to spray fertilizer on its leaves once every ten days or so. This way you can grow it well without having to add fertilizer to the pot.
