How to breed lobsters?

The most common lobster is crayfish , which has been a very popular farmed variety in recent years. Although crayfish have strong adaptability, you still need to master the skills to raise them well. So how do you breed lobsters? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Breeding site

Lobsters like to live in still water environments such as rivers and ponds. Therefore, it is most appropriate to choose waters with good water quality, clear water, suitable water temperature and no pollution as breeding sites. When choosing a site, factors such as convenient transportation and good ventilation also need to be considered.

2. Seedling placement

The best plan for stocking shrimp is from September to October, the first is to release broodstock from June to August, and the last is to release shrimp fry from March to May. At present, many farmers choose to stock seedlings in spring. During this stage, not only is the price of seedlings high, but the survival rate of stocking is also low. Those who choose to plant seedlings in spring must consider carefully.

3. Seedling density

Regardless of the mode of crayfish farming , the stocking density cannot be too high. The intensive farming density in the pond should be controlled at 80-100 jin per mu, and the mixed farming mode should be lowered to 50-60 jin per mu. If the density of seedling stocking is too high, it will put pressure on the pond and its management, causing the crayfish to be smaller in size . The crayfish are prone to death due to lack of bait, poor breeding environment, lack of oxygen and other factors.

4. Feeding rules

Shrimp is a carnivorous animal that feeds mainly on small fish, mollusks and other aquatic organisms. During the lobster farming process, reasonable feeding can improve the productivity of lobsters. Generally speaking, lobsters like to eat at night and early morning, so the best time to feed them is at night and early morning. The bait must be fresh and have a certain nutritional content.

5. Clean the water

Cleaning pond water is a key part of ensuring lobster growth. When cleaning the pond, it is recommended to use zones and batches. The water can be changed every 15-20 days, and disinfection, fertilizer application and water layer adjustment should be carried out regularly to maintain appropriate oxygen content in the water, clean and hygienic water quality, and ensure the healthy growth of lobsters.

6. Aquatic plant management

Planting aquatic plants is a must for lobster farming. In addition to a certain proportion of submerged aquatic plants such as Elodea , Hydrilla verticillata , and Vallisneria , an appropriate amount of floating or emergent plants is very important. In high temperature seasons, combine pond aquatic plants and control density to integrate the breeding pond environment into the optimal state, with abundant algae and plankton.

7. Disease prevention

During the lobster farming process, due to problems with the environment, water quality, feed, etc., lobsters are very likely to develop various diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out disease prevention and control work, regularly carry out health care and vaccination work for lobsters, identify the source of the disease as early as possible, and deal with problems immediately when they arise.

8. Daily pond inspection

Daily inspections of lobster ponds are also important. It is necessary to pay close attention to the crayfish's eating, molting, and coming ashore at night. By paying close attention to these, problems in crayfish farming can be detected. Daily pond inspections are extremely important in case of sudden weather conditions.
