How to plant big pompoms

Planting time

This ornamental onion is basically planted by sowing, usually in September or October of the first year, so that it will sprout in the spring of the second year. However, this method is not simple, because it is not easy to wait until it blooms, and it may take 5 years. In addition to this method, you can also divide the bulbs. If you start dividing the bulbs in summer and autumn, they will basically bloom in the second year.

Key points for planting

Soil selection

They require relatively fertile soil and are best grown in soil because hydroponics can easily rot. Therefore, even if it is grown in soil, you must pay attention to the drainage ability of the soil. Once there is a problem with drainage, it is likely that the entire plant will rot.

Light and temperature

The big pompom prefers a location with better sunlight and does not like a place with partial shade and half sun. When growing, it is best to keep the temperature at 15-25℃, and a cooler temperature is also acceptable. In winter, although the weather is relatively cold, they are basically not afraid and do not need too many warming methods. They are still relatively resistant to cold.

Water and fertilizer control

We all know that water and fertilizer need to be coordinated together, and the soil should be loosened during the period of better growth. It is sufficient to apply it once every 2-3 weeks, and it should be applied thinly. When the temperature is high, it is necessary to provide shade or spray water in time to reduce the discomfort of the plants. Moreover, when the temperature is high, the above-ground part will not survive, so the underground part can be directly dug out and preserved. It is best to store it in a location with sufficient air flow to prevent rotting.
