How to fertilize spoon lip orchid

How to fertilize spoon lip orchid

1. Fertilizer selection

When fertilizing the spoon-lipped orchid, it is best to choose some farmyard manure, because farmyard manure is a very good organic fertilizer, but it must be piled up for a period of time before use. The nutrients in this fertilizer are very comprehensive and mild in nature. It has no side effects on the plants. If chemical fertilizers are used, it will be bad for the substrate and easily form lumps. Moreover, many fertilizers are acidic. If used for a long time, the substrate will become too acidic, which will cause other diseases. In addition, when applying fertilizer, you should also pay attention to the balance of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. If it is in the leaf synthesis period, do not choose to use nitrogen fertilizer. Of course, you cannot use calcium, phosphorus and magnesium fertilizers, otherwise it will not be particularly good for its flowers. If you are growing plants with larger petals, you can apply more nitrogen fertilizer.

2. Fertilization method

Generally speaking, the best way to fertilize it is to spray fertilizer on the leaves. Foliar fertilization allows its leaves to absorb more nutrients without causing damage to its roots, so this method is better. In fact, many orchid plants use this method, which is not only safe, but also can absorb nutrients better than ordinary fertilization methods.

3. Amount of fertilizer

As long as it is growing well, you can insist on applying foliar fertilizer to it every 10 days or so, so that you can keep it well. In addition, you should apply thin fertilizer frequently. The spoon-lipped orchid does not need a lot of fertilizer when growing. For those plants that grow more vigorously, we can apply a relatively thin liquid fertilizer every 10 to 15 days. Do not apply too much, otherwise it will have the opposite effect. Therefore, the amount of fertilizer applied must also be controlled.
