How to trim and shape the iron jasmine

How to trim and shape the iron jasmine

1. When pruning

When pruning, any plant needs a certain pruning time. There are generally two periods for pruning iron jasmine, one is during its growth period, and the other is during its dormant period. It is not suitable for pruning after autumn. It is different from other plants, so don't think about waiting until autumn to prune. In addition, pruning should be done when the weather is clear, which is the most suitable time for pruning.

2. How to prune during the growing season

When it is in its growing period, the first pruning should be done in conjunction with repotting. First, we can use a small wooden stick to dig out the whole plant, then remove part of the soil from its roots, and then cut off those roots that grow too densely. After repotting, you can cut off or shorten those branches that grow too long or too dense, so that the branches can be evenly distributed. Then after the flowers fall, you can prune it a second time, removing some of the leaves to reduce nutrient consumption. Keep 3 to 5 nodes on each branch and cut off the top to promote the sprouting of new branches.

3. How to prune during dormancy

Start pruning before the branches sprout in spring, and prune away all those branches that are sick or infested with insects, as well as those that are weak or overgrown. Don't feel sorry for them. In addition, for those annual branches, shorten them and keep the lower branches 10 to 15 cm. Then remove the remaining leaves. Although it looks a bit bald and not very beautiful after pruning, if it is not too harsh, it will continue to affect its growth. After pruning, the plant can absorb nutrients better, without causing nutrient loss, and it will look more beautiful.
