Taboos of growing Rieger Begonia in winter

Taboos of growing Rieger Begonia in winter

1. Don’t set the temperature too low

Begonia generally grows in subtropical areas. It can grow well in places with suitable temperatures, but it is very afraid of cold weather, so the temperature must not be too low, otherwise it will be damaged by frost. Generally, in mid-autumn, you should start moving it indoors and keep the temperature in the room above 5 degrees. Otherwise, if the temperature is too low, it will not be able to survive the winter. In some places in winter, the temperature in the room cannot be guaranteed to be normal, so at this time we can cover it with a thin layer of protective film, so that we can maintain its temperature and have a good warming effect.

2. Don’t apply too much water

In winter, the plant does not require much water, so we must reduce the application of water appropriately. And when watering, be sure to start from the roots, not from above, so that it can grow better and spend the winter safely.

3. Don’t use too much fertilizer

In winter, the temperature will be lower than in other seasons, so its growth will start to slow down. At this time, we can stop applying fertilizer to it. In addition, we must ensure sufficient ventilation to prevent it from suffering from hypoxia. When applying fertilizer, remember not to touch its roots, otherwise it will easily burn its roots. This must be remembered in winter so that it can safely get through the winter.

4. Don’t let pests and diseases harm it

Generally, a lot of insects will easily appear in winter. At this time, we must be careful and use some methods to eliminate those insects in time. We must not let them harm the leaves, otherwise it will affect its wintering.
