How to sow seeds for wood butterflies

How to sow seeds for wood butterflies

Seed selection

This is the first step, which is directly related to the success rate of subsequent sowing, so you must be cautious. It is best to choose seeds that were collected that year, are relatively full, and have no deformities or pests and diseases.

Disinfection

There are two that we need to disinfect. The first is to do it to the seeds. We can soak them in water at about sixty degrees Celsius and wait for about fifteen minutes. The second is to disinfect the substrate. You can directly put them in a pot and heat them to kill the pests. Both types of disinfection are relatively simple to implement.

Germination treatment

Prepare warm water and soak the seeds processed in the previous step for half a day to a day, until we observe that the seeds have absorbed enough water and swelled. This work is not necessary, and for seeds that are easy to germinate, this step can be skipped.

sowing

The next step is to officially sow the seeds. Place the seeds one by one on the substrate. If it is difficult to pick them up, you can also use small tools such as toothpicks. After sowing, cover it with a layer of substrate, about one centimeter. Then, place the container in water so that the depth is about half of its height, and allow the water to slowly rise.

Post-management

If you are sowing in late fall or early spring when it is cooler, you can cover the container with plastic wrap to keep the temperature down. However, after the seeds germinate, the film should be removed in time to allow the plants to receive sunlight.

After the plants emerge, there may be some unhealthy seedlings, and we must pull them out in time.
