How to propagate Potentilla fruticosa

Seed propagation

Seed selection: This is a very important step, which is closely related to the final survival rate. It is best to choose those that were collected and harvested in the same year, that is, those that have a shorter shelf life. In addition, plumpness and freedom from pests and diseases are also factors to consider.

Disinfection: First of all, the seeds should be soaked in warm water at about 60 degrees for 15 minutes. In addition, the substrate must also be disinfected and can be heated in a pan to kill pests.

Germination: This step also requires the use of warm water. Soak the seeds for about twelve to twenty-four hours until they absorb water and swell.

Sowing: For larger seeds, you can pick them up with your hands or tools and place them on the substrate; if they are smaller seeds, you can soak toothpicks with water, then stick them on top. Next, we will use the "basin immersion method" to deal with it. Also, be sure to cover the seeds with another layer of substrate after sowing and wet it with a sprayer.

Cutting propagation

Choice of substrate: Nutrient soil is best. If conditions are limited, river sand can also be used, but it must be rinsed with clean water before use.

Choice of branches: Generally speaking, sturdy and thicker branches are better, and of course it is best if they grow in the same year.

Specific steps: Cut the branches into sections of five to fifteen centimeters in length, each with three or more leaf nodes, and then insert them into the substrate.

Post-management: First of all, temperature is one of the factors that we must control, and the most suitable temperature is around 20 to 30 degrees. Next is humidity. The relative humidity of the air should be between 75 and 85 percent. In addition, sunlight exposure is also very important.
