How to propagate the herb by division

How to propagate the herb by division

Time of choice

Division can be done together with repotting. This is more convenient. You have to take out the whole plant anyway, so you don’t have to find time for it specifically. Or it can be done during its growth period, when the temperature is more suitable for its growth and can increase its chances of survival.

Selection of ramets and pre-planting treatment

Select the small plants next to the mother plant and cut them off with a sharp knife. If there are independent branches, you can dig them out directly. Rooted plants can be planted directly into the soil. If it has no roots or has wounds, you need to put it in a cool place in the sun for 1-2 days. Wait until the wound has completely dried before planting to prevent pests from invading through the wound.

Post-planting care

Do not water too much right after planting, otherwise the part in the soil will easily rot, but the soil cannot be too dry, as this will be detrimental to its rooting. Just keep it slightly moist, and do not place it in the sun. You can choose a location with good light to grow it. Wait until the new roots have fully grown out and then carry out maintenance in the normal way.

Precautions

Don't plant it too deep in the soil, just insert it lightly so that it can maintain balance.

After planting, placing it in too strong sunlight or too dark a place will cause it to grow poorly.

When dividing the plant, if the mother plant has wounds, it can also be exposed to the sun for 1 to 2 days, and then planted back into the pot after the wounds become dry.

The soil must be well permeable so that the roots can breathe normally.
