Can Gardenia be propagated by cuttings?

Can Gardenia be propagated by cuttings?

There are many ways to propagate gardenia, such as seed propagation, division propagation, cutting propagation and layering propagation. The most commonly used methods for gardenia are cutting propagation and layering propagation, while planting propagation and division propagation are rarely used.

Gardenia cutting propagation

Gardenia can be propagated by cuttings. The soil for cuttings propagation should be loose, well-drained, and preferably slightly acidic. Generally, humus, dead leaf soil and coarse sand can be mixed in a ratio of 4:1:2, but it depends on the actual situation. It can be disinfected before use to enable the gardenia to grow better after cuttings.

Gardenia cutting time

The best time to take gardenia cuttings is mid-April, which is late spring and early summer. The temperature is relatively suitable in many places, and the dryness and wetness are just right. In this way, the gardenia cuttings can take root and sprout better after cuttings, and the chance of survival of the cuttings is also greater.

Gardenia cutting propagation method

The cutting propagation method of gardenia is relatively simple. Choose strong, disease-free and insect-free cuttings. Two-year-old branches are most suitable. Clean the leaves under the branches, leaving 2-3 leaves. This can avoid nutrient consumption. Then soak the cut branches in disinfectant for 10 minutes. After taking them out and drying them, you can start cuttings.
