How to propagate Begonia oleracea

How to propagate Begonia oleracea

Methods of reproduction

Their leaves are very large and the veins are relatively thick, so their regeneration ability is very strong. It is precisely because of this that there is absolutely no problem with leaf cuttings of this plant.

Time of reproduction

When this type of begonia reaches its fourth year, its growth will gradually deteriorate. Don't worry if this happens, because it will happen no matter how well you take care of it. Therefore, old plants can be eliminated every four or five years by leaf cuttings. In this way, our Begonia truncatula will be full of vitality every year!

Steps to reproduction

One thing to note here is that you should not assume that the leaves you need to use cannot be destroyed. On the contrary, only by cutting the leaves can they be stimulated to produce adventitious buds and adventitious roots. The container you choose must be a shallow basin with a large mouth. After washing it, you can put the fried noodles in it. Use a larger basin filled with water, soak it and set it aside. Use a sterilized knife to make deep cuts into the veins on the back of the leaves, with each cut being two to three centimeters apart. Then lay it flat in wet sand with the leaves facing up, and the petiole should be inserted into the sand.

At this time, the leaves may stand up again. You can press them down with a piece of glass. The surface of the pot should also be covered with glass, but do not cover it tightly. After 20 days at normal room temperature, the leaves will change, and after 35 days, new roots and new leaves will grow. At this time, just remove the glass. Wait until the leaflets slowly unfold, cut off the main vein and then put it in the pot for maintenance. After using fertilizer once a month, you can resume normal maintenance.

Well, now you have mastered the key points of their reproduction, and you don’t have to worry about your own aging and drying up!
