Cultivation methods and precautions of Dendrobium sphenanthera

Soil selection

In any case, preparation of the potting soil is the first step. When choosing a pot, pay attention to the material. Plastic or ceramic is best, and it is best if there are some holes around the pot. One thing to note here is that if you want to grow multiple plants, it is best to separate the roots of each plant. Cover one-third of the bottom of the pot with broken bricks or tiles, and fill the pot with peat moss, charcoal, etc. It is best to soak these materials in water for a day before use.

humidity

This kind of Dendrobium is very sensitive to temperature, especially the newly transplanted seedlings, which are also quite sensitive to water. If there is not enough water, they will easily dry out and the chances of survival will decrease. Too much water will prevent their roots from breathing properly, causing them to become sick or even rot. Therefore, if it has just been planted for about a week, you need to maintain a relatively high humidity. After this week, you can lower the humidity slightly.

Watering

In the first week, you don't have to worry too much about water, just spray water on the leaves. Be careful to control the amount. You cannot not spray it. Otherwise, the leaves will dry up quickly and even cause the whole plant to die. You can't spray too much. We all know that too much water can easily cause root rot. In winter, not so much water is required because the dormant Dendrobium does not need too much water.

Fertilization

Because this plant has aerial roots, you can just use foliar fertilizer. The Qingming Festival and the Beginning of Winter are the golden periods for their growth, and appropriate top dressing can be applied at this time. If conditions permit, you can choose to mix pig and cow manure with nitrogen fertilizer during Qingming Festival. You can choose organic fertilizers, such as rapeseed cake, around the beginning of winter.
