How to care for Magnolia potted plants

How to care for Magnolia potted plants

1. Pot soil selection

Use air-permeable clay pots for flower pots. It is best not to use porcelain pots, glazed pots, etc. The bottom of the flower pot should have holes for drainage. The soil is required to be loose, fine, and well-drained. It can be mixed with leaf mold, coarse sand, coarse chaff ash, and manure in a ratio of 5:2:2:1. Do not use heavy clay soil with poor air permeability. It likes acidic soil, and the most suitable pH value is between 5.5-6.3.

2. Light supplement

Magnolia needs plenty of sunlight to grow. It should face the sun during the growing period, especially during the flowering period, and should receive at least 6 hours of sunlight a day. If it is not exposed to sunlight for a long time, it will lead to fewer or no flowers, and the branches will become thin and long, which is not conducive to growth. At noon in summer, you need to avoid exposure to the sun to prevent burns.

3. Water and fertilizer management

The moisture should be appropriate. Water immediately when the surface of the potting soil is dry. Reduce watering in late autumn and water every 10 days after winter. Afraid of concentrated fertilizer. It needs nutrient supply, but the concentration cannot be too high. In addition to adding base fertilizer in the pot, you can fertilize it regularly during the growing season, and apply liquid phosphorus and potassium fertilizer every 5-7 days during the flowering period.

4. Timely pruning

You can prune the withered and old leaves and branches in time, leaving the newly sprouted new shoots, which can promote the growth of new branches and leaves.
