Cyclamen dormancy and precautions

Cyclamen dormancy and precautions

What is the dormancy period of cyclamen?

The dormant period of cyclamen can be specifically described as the following process. As the weather gets warmer and the temperature gradually rises, the leaves of cyclamen will turn yellow and wither. The leaves continue to wither and become bare, and it is best if only the bulbs are left. This is actually the process of it going dormant.

Strictly speaking, the dormancy period of cyclamen is not fixed and varies in different regions and climatic conditions. Some cyclamen may enter dormancy early, while others may still be very active in summer. This depends on the growing environment of the cyclamen, so everyone should be mentally prepared.

Precautions for Cyclamen dormancy

When the leaves of cyclamen have completely withered and entered dormancy, you don't need to remove the bulbs. Just place the bulbs and flowerpots in a cool and ventilated place, and pay attention to heat protection. During the dormant period of cyclamen, be careful not to apply fertilizer, but you can water it. Generally, watering is done by immersing the pot, and the entire plant should be watered thoroughly. But the frequency of watering does not need to be too high.

Generally, when the temperature gradually drops, cyclamen will sprout again.

Cyclamen care after dormancy

Basically, when cyclamen starts to sprout again, it means that its dormancy period is about to end. At this time, regrowth begins and normal maintenance can be carried out. Start fertilizing again, this time adding some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

Once the cyclamen plant grows back, you can care for it in the normal way.
