Fruit tree planting management guide in September

Fruit tree planting management guide in September

September, which is early autumn, is a critical period for fruit tree management. At this time, most fruit trees have entered the fruit ripening or late growth stage. It is also an important time to prepare for next year's growth. So what specific management work needs to be done? Below is a detailed guide for fruit tree planting and management in September, come and take a look.

1. Fertilize in autumn

Early September is suitable for applying basal fertilizer to provide sufficient nutrients. Fertilizer should be applied deeply, avoiding too concentrated or too shallow application, the depth should be about 40-60 cm. Apply 25-35 kg of soil and miscellaneous fertilizer and 1-2 kg of special fertilizer for fruit trees to each non-fruiting tree. The dosage for fruiting trees can be increased as appropriate based on tree vigor and yield. At the same time, spray foliar fertilizers such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate and urea to enhance fruit quality and promote flower bud differentiation.

2. Autumn pruning

Focus on thinning out branches that affect ventilation and light, such as supporting branches, fallen branches, back branches, etc., and cut off the sprouts that sprout in autumn. The best time to adjust the branch opening angle is from August to September, which helps improve light conditions and fruit coloring.

3. Autumn gardening

Autumn turning can deepen the soil tillage layer, which is beneficial to root growth. At the same time, it destroys the places where overwintering pests in the soil can achieve an insecticide effect. Note that the depth of autumn turning should be adjusted according to the age of the tree to avoid damaging the thick roots.

4. Drainage and flood prevention

There is more rain in September, so it is necessary to do a good job of drainage in the orchard to keep the soil loose and well ventilated, creating a good soil environment for root growth and development.

5. Remove fruit bags

The bagged fruits are usually removed 10-20 days before harvesting. First remove the outer paper bag and keep the inner red paper bag. Remove the inner bag after 3-7 days.

6. Weed suppression

Mowing the weeds inside and outside the orchard and covering the orchard with them can have multiple effects such as cooling, improving the soil, and increasing fertilizer.

7. Pest and disease control

Orchards are prone to diseases and pests in autumn due to heavy rain and poor ventilation. Therefore, disease and pest control during this period is crucial. Specific prevention and control strategies mainly cover two aspects: one is to focus on the prevention and control of early leaf fall diseases (such as brown spot disease and spotted leaf fall disease) and fruit diseases (such as ring rot, anthracnose, and black and red spot disease); the other is to pay attention to the prevention and control of diseases and insects during the overwintering period, and reduce the initial number of diseases and pests in the following year by eliminating the overwintering fungal and insect sources.

The above is a brief sharing of the fruit tree planting and management guidelines in September. Basically, doing these management tasks well will help ensure the healthy growth of fruit trees and improve fruit yield and quality.
