Kalanchoe

If you want to enjoy clusters of various colored Kalanchoe flowers blooming during the Chinese New Year, hurry up and take cuttings now. If you don’t hurry, it will be too late when the weather gets cold!

Cutting method:

1. Cut off healthy branches of Kalanchoe, 5-10 cm in length, cut the bottom obliquely, and place them in a well-lit and ventilated place to dry for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

2. Take a bottle of clean tap water, the water level does not need to be too high, insert the branch into the bottle mouth, let the water touch a little bit of water, or not touch the water to receive a little moisture, it is easy to grow

If you want to do large-scale hydroponic cuttings, you can also find a large tank and make a circle as shown in the picture below.

3. Place the hydroponic device in a cool and ventilated place. After about a week, the Kalanchoe will grow roots.

4. After the longevity branches grow roots, you can transplant them into potting soil, water them thoroughly, and place them in a place with diffuse light and good ventilation. After the seedlings have successfully grown, you can gradually expose them to the sun.

chrysanthemum

This month is the last chance to take chrysanthemum cuttings. Any later and they won’t bloom. If you plant a few branches now, you can enjoy the flowers during the Chinese New Year. Put them at home with red, yellow...big flowers blooming, magnificent, not to mention how beautiful!

Cutting method:

1. Cut off healthy chrysanthemum branches, each branch is about 12-18 cm long, and leave about 4 leaves on each branch.

2. Cut the lower end of the branch diagonally into a horseshoe shape. At the same time, remove the 2-3 leaves at the lower end, leaving only 1 leaf at the top. If you are cutting the top branches, you only need to remove the leaves at the bottom.

3. Soak the treated branches in carbendazim solution for 30-40 minutes for disinfection. This can increase the survival rate. If there is no carbendazim, this step can be omitted.

4. Prepare clean, loose, nutrient-rich soil, put the soil into the flowerpot, smooth the surface, and use chopsticks to poke 6-8 cm holes in the soil surface. The spacing between the holes should not be too close.

5. Insert the chrysanthemum branches into the hole, press them down slightly with your hands, water them thoroughly, spray the leaves with water, and place them in a cool and ventilated place.

6. Generally, after 7-15 days, when the branches have taken root, you can slowly expose them to the sun for about 3 hours in the afternoon. Be careful not to overexposure them to the sun, and do not water them until they are dry. Excessive watering will cause them to grow too tall.

7. You can fertilize the chrysanthemums around October, just sprinkle a few grains of compound fertilizer. For chrysanthemums with large flowers, you can use a small stick to fix the plant, leaving only one flower bud at the top. Chrysanthemums with small flowers do not need bud thinning.

Geranium

It is difficult for Tianzhu to survive the summer, but it is easy to survive the winter, so cuttings or sowing in autumn are good choices. The cutting method is similar to the steps for chrysanthemum and Kalanchoe. I will not go into details here, and focus on teaching you sowing.

Sowing steps

1. When sowing geraniums, you can choose to use seedling blocks, which is more convenient. Put them in a seedling box filled with water and soak them in advance.

2. Place the geranium seeds on the seedling blocks. One seed per seedling block is enough. After placing the seeds, cover the surface with a layer of fine soil about 0.3 cm thick.

3. After sowing, cover the seedling box with a black plastic bag to keep the soil slightly moist but not too wet. It will germinate in about 5-10 days.

4. After the seeds germinate, you can remove the bag and expose them to light to prevent them from growing too tall. Just water it when the soil is dry. Wait until the seedlings grow 4-5 leaves, then the geranium can be planted in pots.

5. After the seedlings have been planted and grown, you can gradually apply compound fertilizer. Dissolve the compound fertilizer granules in water and then irrigate the roots. Once a week, be sure to dilute.

6. When geraniums are in the seedling stage, you can start pinching them so that they will bloom more in the future.

Baby's breath

Gypsophila also has a hard time surviving the summer, so the best time to sow it is the end of August or September. Move it indoors for maintenance during the winter, and you can enjoy the flowers in the spring!

Sowing steps

1. Before sowing, prepare clean soil free of pathogens, which should be loose and breathable. The soil can be heated and disinfected in a microwave in advance.

2. Put the soil into the flowerpot and place a small basin of water at the bottom. Let the water pass through the water holes at the bottom of the flowerpot to soak the soil until the soil is completely wet.

3. Use a toothpick dipped in water to place the seeds one by one on the soil, or sprinkle the seeds on paper, fold the paper in half and sprinkle it on the soil. This requires a high level of skill.

4. After sowing, prepare some fine soil and sprinkle it lightly on the seeds. It should not be too thick and should not exceed 0.3 cm.

5. Cover the flower pot with a layer of plastic wrap, tie it tightly with a rubber band, and use a needle to poke a few holes in the plastic wrap for ventilation. Place it in a well-ventilated place with diffused light, but avoid direct sunlight.

6. Keep the soil slightly moist and it will germinate in 1-2 weeks. After germination, gradually expose it to sunlight.
