Propagation of Spring Taro

Reproduction method:

The three propagation methods of spring taro, namely cutting propagation, sowing propagation and division propagation, are all relatively simple to operate.

Cutting propagation:

The most suitable time for cutting propagation is May to September. Select long branches that are free of diseases and pests and are growing healthy and strong. Cut them and put them directly into the river, but make sure the river sand is clean. Put them in a cool place. The temperature should be around 25 degrees. The air should be kept moist. New roots will grow in about 20 to 25 days.

Propagation by division:

Propagation by division is when new small plants grow from the roots of the old plants. When repotting, you can directly move the new plants to new pots for planting. However, when moving to new plants, try not to damage the old plants or the roots of the plants. At the same time, you can also pinch the top of the plants, which can promote the growth of side plants and prevent the plants from being too tall. When the side plants grow to about 15 cm in length, they can be transplanted.

Seed propagation:

Propagation by seed is the easiest, just like sowing seeds for other plants.

Disease and Pest Control of Spring Taro

Anthracnose and leaf spot are common diseases of spring taro. They can be prevented and controlled by using drug preparations such as mancozeb, thiophanate-methyl, and carbendazim, and they have obvious preventive and control effects. Scale insects and red spiders are common pests of spring taro and can be killed by spraying with special insecticides. For scale insects, ventilation can be enhanced and they can be effectively prevented. For red spider mites, you can use a spray bottle to moisturize the growth environment of spring taro, which can also effectively prevent red spider mites.
