Are the hydroponics roots rotten and smelly? Throw this in right away and it will be solved immediately!

Throw some metronidazole

Let’s first talk about why water smells bad?

For hydroponic plants, their roots grow in water. In a relatively closed environment, anaerobic bacteria will be produced, which directly leads to rotting and stinking. To avoid stinking, you need to kill these nasty anaerobic bacteria.

Do you flower lovers have metronidazole at home? This small pill can not only treat stomatitis and gastroenteritis, but can also be used to preserve hydroponic plants!

method:

1. Take out the hydroponic plants, cut off the rotten roots, control the moisture, and dry them in a place with scattered light for 20 minutes. The purpose here is to kill some of the anaerobic bacteria.

2. Pour out the original water in the hydroponic bottle, scrub it with a small amount of 84 disinfectant, rinse it clean and leave no disinfectant residue.

3. Fill with new water. Note that the newly installed water must be tap water that has been exposed to the sun for 24 hours, because this is to allow the impurities in it to settle and the chlorine to evaporate. If you don't have time to prepare it, just use some purified water.

4. Prepare a piece of metronidazole and grind it into powder or throw it directly into the hydroponic bottle. Feel free to use it, and it’s okay to put a little too much, as metronidazole is specifically designed to kill anaerobic bacteria.

Position the right

Where do you keep your hydroponic bottles? Should it be placed on the south balcony? Is it placed in the sun? No wonder this kind of hydroponics doesn’t stink, it’s really against the will of heaven.

It is best to place hydroponic plants near a window to get some sun without being exposed to direct sunlight. Although it is the beginning of autumn now, the sun at noon on the south balcony is still quite strong. Direct sunlight will cause moss to grow and accelerate the deterioration of water quality.

You can put it on the north balcony. When the weather gets cooler in autumn and the days become shorter, it won’t be too late to move it to the south balcony.

Moreover, a very important point is that some flower lovers like to place hydroponic plants in the bathroom and on bedside tables. If these locations are often not ventilated, the plants will easily rot and become smelly, so move them away quickly.

Water change method

Even if the plants don’t stink for the time being, there are still some tricks to changing the water. Today Huahua will show you step by step.

1. The frequency of water change is generally one week in summer and half a month in winter. If you don't change it for a long time, your hydroponic bottle will become like this, with a lot of impurities on the surface, which looks very ugly.

2. First, put the roots of the plant under the faucet and gently rinse them with low water to wash away the mucus on them. Be careful not to rub it with your hands, and try not to touch the newly grown tender white roots.

3. Rinse the cup and clean off the slippery mucus and moss inside.

4. Clean up rotten and old roots. There is no point in keeping these roots, as they cannot breathe, provide nutrients, and will only make the water stink.

5. Fill the hydroponic bottle with water, a little less than half, and do not let the roots be completely immersed in the water. Now you’re done. Doesn’t it look much better?

Tips: Hydroponic bottles should be wide-mouth bottles. Don't choose narrow-mouth bottles because they are not airtight and are more likely to become smelly.
