The bonsai I bought for 100,000 yuan died before the end of summer. I’m so heartbroken!

Bonsai is different from ordinary potted plants. The roots of bonsai are usually mostly exposed outside the soil layer, and for the sake of beauty, the soil in the pot itself is also very shallow, which greatly reduces the bonsai plant's absorption of water and nutrients. Therefore, in more extreme weather such as summer, the bonsai may be in poor condition if you are not careful.

Now Huahua will share with you some tips on how to care for bonsai in summer, and you can also appreciate the expensive bonsai maintained by the masters!

▲Like a lush primeval forest

1. Avoid drought

Some of our flower lovers have fulfilling lives and sometimes get busy, so they don’t water our beloved bonsai for a long time. This is the first taboo.

▲Elegant and romantic, full of classical beauty

Although it is advisable to water only when the soil is completely dry and the bonsai is able to adapt to the environment, the evaporation of water is relatively strong in summer. Long-term extremely dry conditions can easily damage the roots of the bonsai, causing the branches that have been grown with great difficulty to wither and die, which would be a waste of time. Regarding the frequency of watering, it is more appropriate to water it thoroughly as soon as the surface of the soil in the pot feels dry.

▲A nice west wind, with movement in stillness and stillness in movement, quite interesting

2. Avoid water stains

Some flower lovers are just the opposite of the above. They pay too much attention to their bonsai. They think that summer is dry and the evaporation is fast, so they water them every day when they are free. This is the second taboo.

▲The lines are smooth and the rhythm of flowing water makes it worthy of being a high-priced bonsai.

If the potting soil is too wet for a long time, coupled with the high temperature in summer, the heat will be trapped in the soil and will not dissipate for a long time. The roots of the bonsai will not be able to breathe or absorb nutrients and will "drowned". Therefore, don't water the plant every day. It's not too late to water it when you see the soil is completely dry.

▲Like a tiger descending from a mountain, its four hooves soaring into the sky, its momentum is extraordinary

3. Avoid sunburn

Many flower lovers may think that bonsai grows too slowly, so they put it under the sun, hoping that it will grow faster. This is the third taboo.

▲Perfect sense of layering

Bonsai is not like succulents that become more beautiful with more exposure to the sun. On the contrary, due to its poor water storage characteristics, the rate at which bonsai roots obtain water is far slower than the transpiration rate. After being exposed to the sun, not only will it not grow fast, it will also be burned to death. When the temperature exceeds 28℃, it is time to provide shade, but remember not to place it on the south balcony.

▲Backed by steep cliffs, with towering ancient trees

4. Avoid sudden urination

Now seeing the sunburn mentioned above, flower lovers may want to rub their hands and prepare to move the bonsai. Wait, Huahua hasn’t finished yet. Even if you have kept the bonsai in the sun before, you cannot suddenly move it back to the semi-shade, because this is the fourth taboo.

▲The crane bows its head, a symbol of good fortune and prosperity

Everyone now has air conditioners at home, and the temperature is set relatively low. Once you suddenly move the bonsai from the high temperature outdoors to the low temperature indoors, the potted plant will not be able to adapt for a while, and the leaves will turn yellow and fall off. This will make everyone feel distressed, so Huahua reminds everyone today that if you want to move it to a cool place, you must do it step by step and take your time!

5. Avoid fertilizing

It is well known that bonsai grows slowly in summer. Some flower lovers want to apply some fertilizer from time to time to speed up the growth of our small bonsai. This is the fifth taboo.

▲The steep peak is about to collapse, but it stands firmly, a beautiful scene

The temperature is high in summer, and the leaves lose water quickly. If you apply fertilizer now, the solution concentration in the soil will be higher than the solution concentration in the plant cells, so that the water will flow back into the soil, causing water loss and drying, which is called "burning".

▲Two branches stand side by side, entwined and lingering

How is your bonsai? Look at how beautiful other people’s bonsai are. Huahua reminds you that you must pay attention to them, otherwise after the summer, they will be used as firewood sticks!
