Rose

Roses can be seen everywhere in the streets and alleys. Every summer in Huahua Village, when neighbors prune branches, everyone will exchange some varieties that they don’t have and take them home for cuttings. Now there are about 50 varieties in front of Huahua’s own house!

Cutting method

1. The easiest part of the rose to survive by cuttings is of course the branches after flowering. The withered flowers and the two leaves below cannot be used and should be cut off.

(Author: daisy229)

2. Cut the branches into several small sections, cut the upper part flat above the bud point, and cut the lower part obliquely about 0.5-1 cm away from the bud point. The cut should be smooth and not rough. Tip: Be sure to use very sharp blades or scissors, and sterilize them with a lighter in advance.

3. Cut off the extra leaves on the branches, leaving only 1-2 leaves on each section, and cut each leaf in half to reduce water evaporation, otherwise the branches will easily dehydrate and lose their activity.

(Author: daisy229)

4. Outdoor branches will inevitably carry some pathogens that affect their survival, so all treated branches need to be soaked in a carbendazim solution for 10-15 minutes for disinfection and sterilization.

5. After disinfecting the branches, we dilute the rooting agent with water, then mix it into the ash at the bottom of the pot (wood ash) to make it into a paste, and apply it to the oblique cut at the lower end of the branch to disinfect and promote rooting.

(Author: daisy229)

6. Insert the processed branches into the soil that has been soaked in advance. The soil can be vermiculite, perlite, peat soil, fine sand, rice husk carbon, etc. The one principle is that it must be clean, breathable, and free of bacteria. Many people’s rose cuttings do not survive because they did not do a good job of disinfection.

(Author: daisy229)

7. After cuttings, spray water on the leaves to keep them moist, and then place them in a cool and ventilated place, away from direct sunlight. Spray water on the leaves 1-2 times a day to keep them moist, and keep the soil slightly moist. You can put a tray at the bottom of the pot, add water to the tray, and let the soil automatically absorb water from the water holes at the bottom of the pot. You can also put them in a large plastic bucket to keep them moist.

(Author: daisy229)

8. For indoor cuttings, if the temperature is not higher than 28 degrees and not lower than 20 degrees, the roots will take shape in about 15 days.

(Author: daisy229)

9. After rooting, you can transplant it into a large pot!

Bougainvillea

When flower lovers in the South see the bougainvillea wall on the roadside, do they want to move it home? Don’t be envious. If you learn the following cutting method, you can also have a bougainvillea wall. Take action now!

Cutting method

1. Prepare some breathable and loose soil before cutting. You can use peat soil mixed with some vermiculite and river sand.

2. Select healthy bougainvillea branches that are more than one year old, cut them into several small sections, each section is about 7-10 cm, with 1-2 buds, remove most of the leaves, leaving only 2-3 leaves to reduce water evaporation.

3. Dip the lower end of the bougainvillea branch in some clean water, then in some rooting powder, then insert the lower end of the branch into the soil and water it thoroughly.

4. After the cuttings are completed, cover the flowerpot with a layer of plastic wrap and place it in a cool and ventilated place. Now that the weather is hot, you can poke a few small holes in the film for ventilation. After about 2 weeks, the bougainvillea branches will take root. After rooting, you can transplant them into the flowerpot!

Wisteria

Huahua has heard from flower lovers more than once that they want to grow wisteria. In fact, it is not difficult to grow wisteria by cuttings. If you see one at your neighbor’s house, you can ask for a branch to grow by cuttings!

Cutting method

1. Cut the thick and healthy 1-2 year old wisteria vines and cut each into cuttings about 15 cm long.

2. If there are leaves and new shoots on the cuttings, cut them off to prevent nutrient consumption. Then soak the cuttings in a carbendazim solution for 5-10 minutes, and then immerse the lower part in a rooting water solution for about 20-30 minutes.

(Author: fire2zhang Source: Ziteng Bar)

3. Insert the soaked branches directly into the soil. The soil does not have too many requirements, as long as it is clean and free of germs. It is best to spread it out in the sun for 2 days in advance.

4. Wrap the cut end of the branch with a plastic bag to prevent water evaporation and affect survival.

(Author: It is difficult to find an organization Source: Ziteng Bar)

5. Place the flower pots with cuttings in a cool and ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, and keep the soil slightly moist. If any sprouts appear before roots grow, pinch them off immediately.

Fig

Figs are now on the market. They are delicious, but expensive and difficult to store. Those sold in the market are not very fresh. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could grow a fig tree at home and pick and eat them whenever you want? When the fruit is not eaten, the fig leaves can also be used to decorate the home, and they look better than common foliage plants!

Fig cutting method

1. Figs can be propagated by cuttings basically all year round (except in winter in the north). When propagating, you should cut thick branches that are free of diseases and insect pests. Each branch should be about 15-20 cm long and have 2-3 leaves on it.

2. Soak the cut branches in clean water for 2-3 hours, wash off the dust and dirt on the surface, then soak the lower end of the branches in the rooting agent solution for 6-10 minutes.

(Author: tianyaoxian999 Source: Fig Bar)

3. The material with the highest success rate for fig cuttings is river sand. It is best to rinse the river sand with carbendazim or expose it to the sun before use to kill bacteria.

4. Find a plastic bottle, cut off the upper part, leaving only the other half, and poke a few holes in the bottom of the bottle. Fill the lower part of the plastic bottle with river sand, and water it thoroughly.

5. Use your fingers to poke a few small holes in the river sand, insert the processed lower part of the fig branches into the small holes, then compact them slightly with sand around the holes, and finally place them on the east and west balconies with diffused light and ventilation.

(Author: tianyaoxian999 Source: Fig Bar)

6. Now the temperature is high and the roots grow quickly. It will take about 10-20 days to take root. We can clearly see the white roots through the wall of the plastic bottle.

(Author: tianyaoxian999 Source: Fig Bar)

7. Cut the plastic bottle and transplant the rooted fig with the original soil into a deep flowerpot intactly. Make sure to ensure adequate light and water. Water thoroughly when you see the leaves wilt a little, but don't let water accumulate.

Osmanthus fragrans

Osmanthus smells really good and is a very popular flower, but it’s a little expensive. However, you can make use of the osmanthus trees on the roadside and sometimes just scrape off branches and pick them up and take them home!

1. The branches for osmanthus cuttings should preferably be relatively sturdy woody branches grown in the same year.

2. The soil for osmanthus cuttings can be peat soil mixed with a handful of sand, or vermiculite, which can retain water while being breathable.

3. Cut the osmanthus branches into 10-20 cm long cuttings, leave 2-3 leaves on the top, remove the leaves on the bottom, and cut the incision into a horseshoe shape.

(Author: Meiyuan Bamboo Slips)

4. Place the osmanthus branches at a spacing of 6cm×6cm, insert the lower end of the branches into the soil, with the part inserted into the soil accounting for about 2/3 of the length of the branches, and water them thoroughly.

(Author: Meiyuan Bamboo Slips)

5. Place the grafted branches in a well-lit and ventilated place, cover them with film, and spray water frequently to increase the humidity.

6. Generally, it takes about one month for the branches to take root!

Azalea

Azalea is also a very common flower in green belts across the country. There are many varieties, and the flowering seasons are different. If you have a favorite variety, you might as well wait for the landscaping master to prune it, pick up a branch and follow Huahua's method, then go home and try it out by cuttings!

(Author: Shao Hongxia)

1. Rhododendron cuttings can be carried out basically throughout the year. The branches are most active in August-September and April-May, and the temperature is suitable, so the survival rate of cuttings is very high.

(Author: Seeking Life in the Wilderness Source: Azalea Bar)

2. The soil for rhododendron cuttings is generally mixed according to the ratio of peat soil: garden soil: coconut coir = 4:3:3. Before formal cuttings, water the soil thoroughly and then poke several small holes on the soil surface.

3. Use sharp scissors to cut healthy and pest-free branches of azalea, which should be about half a year to a year old.

Cut the branches into several small cuttings, each about 8 cm long, cut off all the lower leaves and half of the upper leaves. Soak the lower part of the pruned branches in the rooting powder solution for about 5 minutes.

4. Insert the azalea branches into the small holes, compact them slightly, and then water them thoroughly. You can also add some carbendazim solution and spray them for disinfection and sterilization.

5. After cutting, spray water frequently to keep it moist, and keep it in a cool and diffused light place, away from direct sunlight.

6. Keep the soil slightly moist. If the soil is a little dry, spray water on it. In about 3-4 weeks, the azalea will take root! After it takes root, just transplant it into a pot.

camellia

Camellia is a big and beautiful flower, and is also loved by many people. There is a variety control freak around Huahua. Once he sees a variety that he doesn't have, he will exchange branches and cuttings with others. He will not give up until he achieves his goal. He is simply insane.

1. Camellia branches that grow within half a year are the easiest to survive, with fuller buds between the leaves and few diseases and pests.

(Author: Jinhua flower friend hlj Source: Shandong Bonsai Bar)

2. Cut the branches of camellia into several small sections, remove the bottom leaves, keep two leaves on the top, and cut these two leaves in half. Soak the trimmed branches in a 1:1000 aqueous solution of carbendazim: water for 5-10 minutes.

(Author: Imagine creating something extraordinary Source: Camellia Bar)

3. The substrate for camellia cuttings can be sand or perlite. Put the sand into the pot, water it thoroughly, and poke several small holes on it with a wooden stick.

4. Insert the branches into the hole, cover with soil, compact it, water it thoroughly, then cover it with a layer of plastic wrap, place it in a cool and ventilated place, open it at noon every day to make it full, and spray it with water to keep it moist. It will take a few weeks to take root. After taking root, you can transplant it into a flowerpot and maintain it normally!

Hydrangea

Hydrangeas are very common on the roads in the north. When they bloom in large patches, they are particularly spectacular! Huahua can't help taking pictures every time she passes by. In fact, now is a good time for hydrangea cuttings, as they have just faded. Let’s take advantage of it!

(Author: Maomao Source: Sina Blog)

1. Use a sharp knife to cut off the hydrangea branches that have bloomed. Be quick, accurate and ruthless, and cut at a 45-degree angle to make the cut as smooth as possible.

2. Leave two leaves above the oblique cut, and then cut flatly above the leaves.

3. Cut these two leaves in half to reduce water evaporation.

4. Insert the treated branches into loose and breathable sandy soil, water them with carbendazim solution to keep them moist, and spray water on the soil surface 1-2 times a day to keep them moist.

5. Keep the soil surface slightly moist. The branches will take root in about 15-20 days. After taking root, you can transplant them into a large pot!

Hibiscus

Hibiscus is a very common flower in both the south and the north. It blooms in large quantities, is beautiful, and has a long flowering period. More importantly, it is very hardy and can bloom all year round in the south. Today, Huahua will use Hibiscus tiliaceus as an example to introduce the cutting method to everyone.

Cutting method

1. Cut healthy young hibiscus branches that are within six months to one year old.

(Author: Podong1916 Source: Xiaomujin Bar)

2. Cut the branches of hibiscus into short pieces, about 5-8 cm each, soak them in carbendazim solution for about 2-5 minutes, then take them out and dry them.

3. Prepare perlite and vermiculite, mix them in a 1:1 ratio, then put them into a disposable paper cup and water them thoroughly.

4. Insert the branches into the soil and place them in a cool and ventilated place, away from direct sunlight.

(Author: Wenwen Source: Sina Blog)

5. After a few weeks, the small hibiscus will take root!

(Author: Wenwen Source: Sina Blog)

6. In addition to using soil for cuttings, you can also use foam water for rooting, which is also easier.

(Author: rong0322 Source: Moshanghua)

7. After taking root, the small hibiscus can be transplanted into a flowerpot for maintenance. After that, place it in a well-lit place, receive sufficient light and keep it ventilated.

Catharanthus roseus

Catharanthus roseus is also a common flower in green belts. It is very easy to propagate by cuttings and is hardy to grow.

(Author: Linglong Huakai Source: Walking on Flowers)

Cutting method

1. Cut off healthy young branches of Vinca roseus, about 5-7 cm in length, free of pests and diseases, and cut off half of the leaves.

2. Find a plastic bottle, make a square hole in the middle of the bottle, fill the hole with vermiculite, water it thoroughly, and then insert the vinca branches into the vermiculite.

(Author: Linglong Huakai Source: Walking on Flowers)

3. Place the grafted vinca roseus in a well-lit and ventilated place, and spray water frequently to keep it moist.

(Author: Linglong Huakai Source: Walking on Flowers)

4. It will take about 10-15 days for vinca roseus to grow white roots! After it has taken root, you can transplant it into a larger pot!
