When to plant cabbage?

Cabbage is a widely grown vegetable with strong adaptability, but its most suitable growing temperature is 15-20°C. Different varieties have different adaptability to temperature. For example, some heat-resistant varieties can grow at higher temperatures. So when should cabbage be planted?

When to plant cabbage?

Spring is a good time to plant cabbage , especially in northern regions. The spring planting time is generally chosen from March to April, and it can be harvested in summer. Cabbage planting in summer should be done at the end of June. Because the temperature is high in summer, measures need to be taken such as building frames, covering, and keeping the soil moist.

Autumn is another ideal planting season for cabbage, especially in July and August. Cabbage planted in the fall can be harvested in the fall or early winter. In some areas, if the winter temperature is suitable, it can also be planted, usually in December to January of the following year.

Cabbage planting conditions

Climate conditions: Cabbage prefers a mild climate, and the most suitable growing temperature is 15-20°C. Different varieties may have different adaptability to temperature, some varieties are more heat-resistant and others are more cold-resistant.

Light requirements: Cabbage needs plenty of sunlight to promote photosynthesis, generally requiring at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Water management: Cabbage has a high demand for water, but is not tolerant to waterlogging. During planting, the soil should be kept moist and waterlogging should be avoided to prevent root diseases.

Soil conditions: Cabbage is highly adaptable, but prefers fertile, loose, well-drained soil with a pH value between 6.0-7.0.

Fertilizer requirements: Cabbage likes fertilizer, so sufficient base fertilizer should be applied before planting, mainly organic fertilizer , and nitrogen fertilizer and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be applied in time during the growth period.

Sowing density: Arrange the sowing density reasonably according to the cabbage variety and planting purpose to avoid poor ventilation and light transmission due to overcrowding.

In summary, everyone should understand that the climatic conditions in different regions are different, and the planting time will also vary. The selection should be made according to local climatic conditions and seasonal characteristics. Choose suitable cabbage varieties according to the planting season and local climatic conditions, such as heat-resistant varieties, cold-resistant varieties, etc.
