How long does it take for Gloxinia cuttings to take root and when is the best time to do it?

Rooting time of Gloxinia cuttings

When taking cuttings of African violets, as long as the temperature is controlled well, it can be done all year round, but it is still recommended to do it in summer and autumn. The specific time for cuttings is between May and September, when the temperature and humidity are conducive to rooting.

Generally speaking, it will take about 15 days for the roots to take root . If you do cuttings in winter or spring, pay attention to the temperature to avoid frostbite, and the rooting speed will also be slowed down.

Rooting method of rockwood cuttings

For rooting of Gloxinia, you should choose newly grown branches of the year for cuttings, soak them in 4% rooting solution, place them in a warm place and wait for germination. After germination, you can transplant them into the soil.

Note that we must water the plant in time after cuttings, and water it appropriately every day. This can effectively avoid waterlogging and allow the African violet to take root faster.

Gloxinia cutting method

1. Branch selection

Before cutting, choose a strong branch with 4 leaves from the mother plant of Gloxinia. Use sterilized scissors to cut it from the root of the branch. The bottom of the branch should be cut obliquely to increase the area for water absorption and rooting.

2. Cuttings

First, use a stick to poke a small hole in the soil for cuttings, then place the processed Gloxinia branches into the soil. Press the soil gently with your hands. Remember not to insert the branches directly into the soil to avoid wearing out the cut and affecting the survival rate of Gloxinia.
