How to keep succulents fat and plump?

Learning how to control and grow succulents is a necessary skill for every succulent lover. Every summer, succulents have to enter the stage of controlling and growing succulents. So how can we keep succulents fat and plump? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Lighting

In summer, the best lighting time for succulents can reach 6-8 hours, from 8 am to 3 pm. Longer lighting is also acceptable. While increasing the light, you can pull up the shade net when the temperature is too high, when the temperature reaches above 28°.

2. Water control

If you want the tender branches of succulents to turn into old wooden stumps, you should reduce watering, keep the soil dry, and let the succulents consume water. In this way, the stumps will turn from green to black and gradually become woody. The leaves of the succulents will also become wrinkled from fat, indicating that water control is successful.

Water control does not mean completely stopping watering. Wait until the bottom layer of leaves on the succulent plant become wrinkled and shriveled, then water it. There is no need to water the soil thoroughly. It is enough to apply 3-5 circles of water along the edge of the pot. Don't control the water too severely.

3. Control fertilizer

It is not recommended to fertilize succulents in summer and enter the control and maintenance stage. The poorer the flower soil, the better, and the lower the nutrient content of the soil, the better. After 3-4 months of controlled growth in the summer, the succulents will become very haggard, completely different from their appearance in spring. Although they look ugly, the succulents' own resistance has improved. In autumn, water and fertilizer are added at the same time. Due to long-term barrenness, the succulents will quickly absorb nutrients and water and will soon return to their round state. For control and maintenance in other seasons, you can apply more fertilizer.

4. Soil control

There are also many requirements for controlling the soil for succulents. Generally, it is configured with granular soil and peat soil, which makes it have a certain degree of fertility but is fully breathable. This is also very particular. This is why people have to spend money to buy soil for growing succulents. They cannot just use garden soil because ordinary soil cannot grow succulents well.

5. Control type

The shape of succulents is also achieved through controlled care. After controlled care, the leaves at the bottom of the succulents will slowly fall off, forming the branches of old stumps, and the stems will become thicker and thicker, growing into wood. For succulents grown into old stumps, the thicker the stems and the stronger the woodiness, generally the more beautiful its shape will be.
