How to propagate Tradescantia

Tradescantia cutting bed preparation

When taking cuttings, choose a well-shaded space and control the light intensity to 45% to 55%. Cutting beds are mostly made of perlite and other soils that are permeable and have good drainage. Before cutting, turn the soil in the cutting bed, clean up the debris, and then you can start cutting.

Tradescantia cutting operation procedures

When selecting mother seedlings, choose plants that are 8 to 10 cm long, manually peel the cuttings from the main trunk, and carry out cuttings. After the cuttings survive, transplant them, keeping a distance of 10 cm between each seedling, which is beneficial to the growth of the plants. After all the cuttings are taken, make sure to spray them with enough water using a watering can and provide shade.

After taking cuttings, you need to pay attention to water control to ensure that the soil in the cutting bed is moist. After 4 days, you can reduce watering appropriately and keep the soil surface moist to promote rooting. After half a month, most of the plants have taken root. Do not apply fertilizer to the cutting bed, but spray it with nutrient solution, generally 0.2% urea by mass concentration is sufficient. When the new roots grow to 5cm, be sure to transplant them. The specifications are 60cm×40cm. Avoid damaging the new roots during transplanting. Open-field cuttings are usually carried out in spring and summer, while greenhouse cuttings can be carried out in all seasons.
