One week before sowing chicory, place the seeds in a cool and ventilated place to dry for one to two days to increase the germination rate of the seeds, but do not place the seeds on the concrete floor in direct sunlight. The seeds can be soaked, the seeds that float to the surface can be removed, and the plump seeds that sink can be sown after the water is dried.

Sowing time

Generally, sowing is done in June and July. Using hole pots to grow seedlings can save more seeds than direct seeding.

Preparation before sowing

Level the field, apply enough base fertilizer, spread the base fertilizer on the surface and then deep plow.

When direct seeding is used, ridge cultivation can be carried out. Watering should be carried out immediately after sowing, watering once before germination and once again after germination.

Thinning

The first thinning is carried out when the seedlings grow two to three leaves, and the second thinning is carried out when they grow four to five leaves, and the weak and diseased seedlings are removed.

Cultivation management

After the seedlings are planted, they should be watered thoroughly, and topdressed according to the growth of the plants. Intertillage and weeding should be carried out in time to control the growth of the above-ground part of the plants and promote the expansion of the roots.
