How to care for zinnia in four seasons

Spring care for zinnias

Suitable for placement on balconies facing east, south or west. Zinnia prefers moist soil, but is also tolerant to drought; it likes fertilizer but is also tolerant to barrenness.

Sow in late April, and choose deep, fertile, well-drained soil for the potting. When the seedlings have 3 to 4 leaves, they can be transplanted into pots. The soil should be kept moist during the sowing and transplanting stages.

In the early stage of planting, the plant should be topped 1 to 2 times to shorten the plant and produce more side branches to fill the pot. During the growing period, zinnia needs to be given sufficient light, the soil in the pot needs to be moist, and light fertilizer needs to be applied frequently. It starts to bloom in June. Place it in a place with sufficient light, keep the soil in the pot moist, and apply appropriate fertilizer, which is beneficial to the growth and opening of the next round of flowers.

After a single flower withers, it needs to be cut off in time, otherwise it will affect the appearance; in addition, cutting off the withered flowers can also promote the germination, growth and flowering of new branches at the bottom of the zinnia. If you want to save seeds, you can wait until the flowers dry up and then cut them off.

Summer care of zinnias

Suitable for placement on balconies facing east, south or west. Zinnias are not tolerant to high temperatures, which will slow down their growth, reduce flowering, and prevent their flowers from setting seeds. After the temperature rises, you can move it to a place with light in the morning and evening or bright light for cultivation and viewing. Keep the soil in the pot moist and stop fertilizing.

In mid-to-late August, after the temperature drops, normal growth and flowering will gradually resume. Need to be moved to light for cultivation.

Autumn care of zinnias

Suitable for placement on balconies facing east, south or west. Autumn is the peak season for zinnia growth and flowering. Keep the potting soil moist, get sufficient light, and apply appropriate fertilizer. Zinnias are not cold-resistant. When the temperature drops in late autumn, they are easily frozen and withered. If placed on a sunny enclosed balcony, the flowering and viewing period of zinnias can be extended.

As the temperature drops, the zinnias gradually die.

Winter care of zinnias

In winter, zinnias will die back.
