What are the propagation methods of Strelitzia reginae

Division

Division propagation is usually best carried out from April to June. When propagating, select healthy adult plants that have 5 to 6 or more root shoots and are free of diseases and insect pests. You can use the method of retaining the mother plant or not retaining the mother plant.

The divisions should be planted in slightly acidic sandy loam with good ventilation and nutrition, or in special cultivation media. At the same time, care should be taken not to plant too deep. The root neck of the leaf cluster must be exposed to the ground, but the fleshy roots must not be exposed to the ground. After planting, water thoroughly immediately, then protect with a shade net for a few days. Wait until the seedlings begin to sprout new leaves, then you can switch to normal management.

sowing

The seeds of Strelitzia reginae are hard and black like peas, with orange-red hairs on the tips. It needs to be soaked in water for 4 to 5 days at a water temperature of 15°C. After it has fully absorbed water, it is sown in a clay pot or a hard plastic tray. The substrate temperature should be between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius. The container should be covered with glass to avoid rodent infestation. Spray water to keep warm, and the seedlings will emerge in about 20 days. Provide shade.

When the seedlings grow to 5-7 cm, they can be transplanted into a clay pot. It is best to mix 4 parts of garden soil, 3 parts of orchid soil, 2 parts of sandy soil, and 1 part of mountain soil. Be sure to water the seedlings thoroughly. After July, apply light bean cake or 1% nutrient solution every half a month to help them grow. In addition, you can also apply 1:250 solution of potassium dihydrogen phosphate compound fertilizer. Start controlling water in September to avoid overhumidity. Avoid direct sunlight and excessive drought during the growing process. It can produce 4-5 leaves in the same year, with a height of about 20 cm. Repot and add soil every year. When 12 to 14 leaves grow, it will transition from the seedling stage to the flowering stage.
