How to solve the problem of soft and dry leaves of Kalanchoe

How to solve the problem of soft and dry leaves of Kalanchoe

1. Pay attention to shade

Reason: Although Kalanchoe needs sufficient light, long-term exposure to strong light during the high temperatures in summer can damage the leaves. Transpiration will cause the leaves to lose a lot of water, and if there is insufficient water supply, they will become soft and dry.

Solution: Move the Kalanchoe to a semi-shaded place, or provide appropriate shade to avoid strong light exposure.

2. Proper watering

Reason: Although Kalanchoe has a certain degree of drought resistance, not watering it for a long time will cause the leaves to lack water, which will lead to softening and drying.

Solution: The plant should be watered once every two to three days, but the amount of water should not be too large, and the soil in the pot should be kept slightly moist. However, in summer, water evaporates quickly, so you can water the plant once a day. On the contrary, in winter, you should reduce watering to avoid frostbite on the roots.

3. Pruning branches and leaves

Reason: The lush branches and leaves cause some leaves to not receive enough light and are not supplied with nutrients. Not only will the leaves become soft and dry, but the branches will also become fragile.

Solution: Prune the branches and leaves every once in a while, and cut off dead branches, overlapping branches, and crossed branches. At the same time, if the plant cannot receive light from all sides, you can turn it regularly so that the shady side can be turned to the sunny side.

4. Disease and Pest Control

Cause: Pests and diseases can cause poor growth and development of the plant, especially root diseases and pests which are most likely to cause the leaves to dry up.

Solution: If dead spots appear on the leaves, it is mostly caused by leaf blight. You can spray it with 600 times diluted 65% Zineb wettable powder. The main insect pests are scale insects and aphids, which can be killed by spraying 1000 times diluted 40% dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate.
