Bodhi tree cultivation methods and precautions

Bodhi tree cultivation methods and precautions

The Bodhi tree is known for its elegant shape and beautiful leaves. It is a slow-growing, long-lived evergreen ornamental tree species and is very ornamental in bonsai form. Let’s learn about the cultivation methods and precautions of Bodhi tree.

1. Lighting conditions

The Bodhi tree bonsai should be placed in a well-lit place such as a balcony, and the pot should be rotated regularly to ensure even lighting. Full sun helps the flowers to be more colorful and the leaves to be glossy. Without enough light, the leaves of the Bodhi tree may turn yellow and fall off.

2. Temperature requirements

The suitable growth temperature range for Bodhi bonsai is 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, and it can grow normally even at room temperature above 5 degrees Celsius. Lower room temperatures help extend the flowering period, although the flowering rate will be slower; while higher room temperatures will speed up flowering, but the flowering period will be shortened accordingly.

3. Watering management

When the temperature is above 20 degrees Celsius, the Bodhi bonsai grows most vigorously and requires more water and fertilizer . The soil in the pot should be kept continuously moist, and the watering principle of "water thoroughly when dry" should be followed. In summer, in addition to ensuring that the soil is adequately moistened, the leaves should also be sprayed with water to increase humidity. As the temperature drops in autumn and winter, the frequency of watering should be reduced appropriately.

4. Soil selection

When planting Bodhi tree bonsai, you can use garden soil, leaf mold and coarse sand, mix them in a ratio of 5:3:2 to prepare the culture soil, and add an appropriate amount of base fertilizer.

5. Pruning tips

In spring and autumn, the dense branches, overgrown branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, dry branches and thin branches of the Bodhi tree should be cut off in time to maintain the beauty of the bonsai. After pruning, the cut needs to be disinfected to prevent infection and rot.

To sum up, when caring for Bodhi bonsai in winter, you should reduce the frequency of watering, keep the soil slightly moist, and pay attention to the water temperature and watering time to ensure that the Bodhi bonsai can safely survive the winter.
