How to water and fertilize Desert Rose

How to water and fertilize Desert Rose

Key points for watering and fertilizing

Potted Desert Roses need plenty of sunlight and good drainage. The best soil is a mixture of fertile, loose sand and leaf mold. It should not be wet during the growth period. It needs to be watered once a day when the temperature is high in summer, and once every 2-3 days at other times. Fertilize 2-3 times throughout the year. Leaves fall normally during the winter drought dormancy period. Planting: Plant or repot in spring. It can be planted in the ground in southern regions and overwinter outdoors. In northern regions, it should be potted and needs to overwinter indoors. Potting soil can be made from a mixture of leaf mold, coarse sand, etc., and then add a small amount of decomposed dry bone meal. Before planting, some broken tiles need to be placed at the bottom of the pot to facilitate drainage. Replace the culture soil during the spring repotting period every year. Newly planted and newly potted plants can be placed indoors or in a shaded place for care, watered less frequently, and then managed normally after the seedlings have grown.

Watering and fertilizing in all seasons

Spring and Autumn

Spring and autumn are the periods when Desert Rose grows most vigorously. During this period, you should water it sufficiently to keep the soil in the pot moist, but at the same time be careful not to make it too wet. When watering, be sure to water when the soil is dry and water thoroughly when the soil is dry. The temperature is lower in early spring and late autumn, so watering needs to be controlled.

summer

In summer, when it is growing vigorously, you need to ensure that there is sufficient fertilizer and water to ensure that the flowers are lush and bright. In addition, when repotting once a year, you can also apply some long-lasting base fertilizer in the pot, such as decomposed bean cake, bone meal, etc.

winter

Reduce watering in winter to keep the soil in the pot dry, but water it if it is too dry. Roses do not require much fertilizer. During their growth period, you can apply thin liquid fertilizer 1-2 times a month. Stop fertilizing in winter. Desert rose likes phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer, and you can usually supplement it once a month.
