How does Begonia spend the winter?

How does Begonia spend the winter?

The growth habit of Begonia is that it likes sunlight, is slightly shade-tolerant, is afraid of cold, and likes warmth. Therefore, insulation work must be carried out in winter.

Winter placement

When winter comes, the temperature will drop. When the indoor temperature is below 5℃, it will be even colder at night. At this time, you should move the Begonia away from the window. In short, don't move it close to the window, and keep it where it can get sunlight to avoid frostbite caused by cold wind.

Antifreeze measures

During the coldest time of winter, you can insert three or four thin bamboo sticks into the soil in the pot as a support, then cover the plant and the pot with a transparent plastic bag film, and then seal the bottom. That's it.

When the temperature rises, remove the film and carry out normal maintenance.

Watering plan

Because of the cold winter, the Begonia is basically in a dormant state and does not consume much water. The plant does not need too much water at this time, so do not water it frequently. Just make sure the soil in the pot is half dry and half wet to avoid root rot.

Watering should be done at noon. The temperature at noon is relatively warm, which can reduce the temperature difference and is conducive to plant growth.

Ventilation maintenance

Pay attention to ventilation for Begonia in winter. You can open doors and windows for ventilation when the weather is warm, but do not place the Begonia in a windy place. Just place it under appropriate shelter.

Also note that in winter, do not fertilize the Begonia to avoid growing thin new branches and leaves that will be difficult to manage.

Well, as long as you do the above, you can protect your Begonia. Act quickly because the weather is going to get colder.
