Potted cultivation method of wine bottle orchid

The bottle orchid, also known as the elephant's leg tree, is an ornamental evergreen small tree , famous for its unique bottle-shaped stem and drooping leaves. In addition to outdoor planting, bottle orchids are also suitable for indoor potted planting and placement as indoor decoration. So what is the method of growing air pot plants ? Let’s learn more about it below.

All">

1. Soil selection

Bottle orchid grows best in loose, well-drained sandy soil. You can mix garden soil, leaf mold and river sand, and add a small amount of bean cake and chicken manure as base fertilizer.

2. Light control

Bottle orchid prefers plenty of sunlight, but can also tolerate shade. It should be placed in a place with sufficient light in spring and autumn, and properly shaded in summer to avoid burning of leaf tips and yellowing of leaves. To prevent the plant from growing crooked, rotate the pot 180° every 4-6 weeks.

3. Temperature management

Bottle orchid is suitable for growing in an environment between 20-28℃ and can withstand high temperatures of 30℃. However, its cold resistance is poor. If the temperature is below 0℃ in winter, you must take measures to keep warm.

4. Watering tips

Bottle orchid is relatively cold-resistant. It is better to keep the soil in the pot moist when watering. Follow the principle of "better dry than wet". Water should not accumulate in the pot, otherwise the fleshy roots and stems will easily rot. Especially after late autumn when the temperature drops, the amount of watering should be reduced to increase the tree's resistance to cold. Control watering in winter and don’t water unless the soil is dry. In the hot season, the air humidity should be maintained high. Water the ground frequently and spray a small amount of water on the leaves.

5. Reasonable fertilization

Fertilization is generally based on compound fertilizer or liquid fertilizer, which can accelerate the expansion of the base of the stem. Except for winter, fertilizer can be applied every 2-3 weeks in the other three seasons. Pay attention to increasing the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and control the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium at 5:10:5.

6. Pruning and repotting

Regularly prune yellow leaves and overcrowded branches and leaves to promote the growth of new flowers. Heavy pruning can be done in winter to encourage the plant to produce more side branches. In addition, repotting should be done once every 2-3 years in spring, before new leaves sprout in large numbers.

In general, the bottle orchid is very suitable for indoor potted cultivation. It has a unique shape and strong drought resistance, and the overall maintenance is relatively simple. Pay attention to the management of light, temperature, watering, fertilization, etc. to maintain the healthy growth of plants.
