How to propagate Begonia by cuttings

How to propagate Begonia by cuttings

Begonia can be propagated by cuttings in all seasons, but if you want it to take root faster, you should avoid summer and winter. If you want the Begonia to take root as soon as possible, you should also pay attention to the environment provided in the later stage. You must ensure that the temperature and humidity are appropriate. You don't need to water too frequently. You can spray water frequently to increase the humidity. If the environment is suitable, it will take about a month to take root, and you can transplant it into a pot after new buds emerge.

Begonia cutting time

Begonia can be propagated by cuttings in spring from May to June and in autumn from September to October. Choose strong and disease-free branches, cut them in a clean substrate, and place them in a shaded place for maintenance. Generally, they can take root and survive in about 20 days, and can be transplanted and planted later. Winter is cold and not suitable for cuttings, but cuttings can survive in a greenhouse all year round.

Begonia cutting method

Begonia likes loose and breathable soil. You can clean the river sand and expose it to the sun for 1-2 days as the substrate for begonia cuttings. On the mother plant with good growth, choose 1-2 year old thick and healthy branches. Make sure there are 3-4 nodes. Prepare a container of suitable size, fill it with processed river sand, smooth the soil, insert the cuttings into the river sand, and keep them in a cool place. Do not water them immediately to avoid the wound rotting and being unable to heal.

Begonia cutting rooting

Begonia cuttings should be chosen from healthy and healthy ones without diseases and pests, preferably one or two years old, with two plump buds on each section. Clean river sand can be used as the cutting medium, because such soil has good air permeability and water permeability. First, poke a small hole in the surface of the medium, then put the cutting in, compact the surrounding soil, and water it thoroughly. Control the temperature between 15-25℃, increase ventilation, spray water frequently to keep it moist, and avoid cutting in summer and winter.
