I want to make succulents beautiful! You must learn these maintenance skills

To take good care of succulents, you must first figure out what variety your succulents are and prescribe the right medicine to achieve twice the result with half the effort. According to the growth habits of succulents, they can be divided into winter type, which dormant in summer and grow in winter; summer type, which dormant in winter and grow in summer; and spring-autumn type, which can grow in spring, autumn and winter except summer.

Winter type

Representative varieties

The Lithops, Conodontia, Lingyaoyu, and Tiannv of the Aizoaceae family, the Great Cangjiaodian and Woniu of the Liliaceae family, the Jade Toon, Green Pagoda, and Lu Qianhui of the Crassulaceae family, etc. Most varieties of succulents in the Aizoaceae family, such as lithops and coneflowers, bloom in this season.

Maintenance points

1. Lighting

If it is a winter type, it is in the growing season and should be given sufficient light to allow the plant to grow healthily, but avoid exposure to the sun.

2. Temperature

When moving succulents indoors, winter-type plants in the growing season must be kept warm, with the temperature maintained at around 10 degrees, creating a 6-10 degree temperature difference between day and night, which is conducive to plant growth.

3. Watering

Keep the soil in the pot slightly moist but not waterlogged. You can water it after 10 am to meet its growth needs. The water temperature should not be too low.

4. Fertilization

Generally, no fertilizer is applied. For vigorously growing succulents, thin fertilizer can be applied. Too much fertilizer may cause fertilizer damage. You can also place granular slow-release fertilizer on the surface of the potting soil for it to be slowly absorbed.

Summer type

Representative varieties

Thunder God, Princess Thunder God, King Crown, Princess Agave, Tiger Tail Orchid, Sandalwood, Black Feather Jade, Mountain Shadow Fist, Brocade Coral, White Robe Tall Jade, Spiral Kirin, Green Power Kirin and so on.

Maintenance points

1. Lighting

Although summer-type species enter a dormant period, they should still be given a certain amount of light so that they can safely spend the winter in dormancy.

2. Temperature

The temperature can be kept between 5 and 10 degrees, not too high, otherwise it will break their dormancy period and affect their growth next year.

3. Watering

Strictly control watering, or even cut off watering, so that it can be completely dormant, which is conducive to growth next year.

4. Fertilization

Stop fertilizing to allow the plant's stems and leaves to grow full, laying a good foundation for subsequent wintering.

Spring and Autumn Type

Representative varieties

The Crassulaceae family includes Tianjinzhang, Cuilvshi, Zhuchunshi, Mingyue, Guanyinlian, Otomexin, Yachiyo, Heifushi, and Xiongtongzi; the Asteraceae family includes Lansong, Loach Palm, and Green Bell; most varieties of the Liliaceae family include Yanrihui and Aizenjin of the Aeonium genus, etc.

Maintenance points

1. Lighting

Give it sufficient light so that it can absorb as much sunlight as possible, allowing the plant to grow fully, which is beneficial to the beauty of the plant shape.

2. Temperature

Move it indoors and maintain the temperature around 10 degrees to promote growth. But the temperature should not be too high.

3. Watering

The watering methods for spring and autumn types are similar to those for winter types. You can water them appropriately or spray the plants in the morning and evening.

4. Fertilization

Thin fertilizers can be applied according to different varieties, but not too much, so as to avoid root rot caused by fertilizer.

In addition, attention should also be paid to insect prevention and sterilization work in winter.
