How to breed Combretaceae

Cutting propagation of Quisqualis

Quisqualis can be propagated by cuttings, which can easily take root, so cuttings are the most commonly used propagation method for Quisqualis. Quisqualis can be propagated by cuttings, either by branches or by roots.

Branch cuttings can be done in spring or autumn. Cut one to two years old sturdy branches of the Quisqualis chinensis as cuttings. Cut them to about 20 cm in length and insert the cuttings obliquely into the sand bed. They can be transplanted in the second year.

Root cuttings are carried out from December to January of the following year. The lateral roots of the roots of the Croton tiglium that are farther away from the main root are dug out and cut into 20 cm long cuttings with a thickness of about 1 cm. They are inserted in the seedbed and transplanted after one year.

Layering propagation of Quisqualis

In early spring, select the strong and long branches of the Quisqualis chinensis, bend them and bury them in the soil, wait for them to take root, and then take them down for transplantation. The layered Quisqualis can be transplanted and planted in mid-to-late February or in the rainy season, and it should be watered sufficiently after planting.

Seed propagation of Quisqualis

Quisqualis can be propagated by sowing, either in spring or autumn, with autumn being the preferred method. The seeds can be sown immediately after being collected, or they can be stored and sown in the spring of the following year.

The propagation of Quisqualis chinensis by seeds requires a long growth cycle. When propagating by sowing, place the tip of the seeds

Insert it into the soil facing downward and diagonally, cover it with soil, keep the soil moist, and it will germinate in about a month. When the seedlings of Quisqualis grow to about 10 cm, they can be transplanted with soil.

Propagation of Quisqualis by division

In addition to cuttings, sowing and layering, Quisqualis creeper can also be divided. In winter and spring, divide the roots of the Quisqualis plant and transplant it. It will usually bear fruit in about 3 to 5 years.
